After my first article about Kali Uchis, I couldn't help doing a second one about the same artist for the first time on this website, after listening to the latest Kali Uchis song 'Telepathy' so many times everywhere.

There are 4 layers of synths in this song. The first and most protagonist appears in the intro and in the choruses. It is a brass that brings a rhythmic character and that I have recreated with Arturia's CZ. To achieve that sound, I started from a preset in the brass section and adjusted the values in the envelope section so that the attack of the chords and the release was similar to the original. I also modified the effects section settings, adding a chorus, delay, and flanger.

The bass of this song is an important element that blends perfectly with the kick. In the original song, the bass has a very buried sound playing in the sub-bass frequencies, it hardly has a presence in the highs frequencies. You could even say it's actually made with a bass-synthesizer.

The drums of this song are recreated with basically 4 sample sounds: kick, snare, hat and a tom. They don't carry any kind of effect, so I just chose samples that sound very close to the original song.

We can also hear acoustic guitar strums in the chorus on the original song. As I did not have an acoustic guitar, I have recorded it doing a few strums with the electric guitar and recorded it with a microphone, although it is not the best way to do it.

Kali Uchis knows how to make her fantasies a reality. Pushing aside others' skepticism early in her career, the singer/songwriter blithely traverses progressive R&B, neo soul, and Latin pop with allure. Following a mixtape and handful of EPs, Uchis' breakthrough debut album Isolation showcased her spectacular dynamism and embrace of risk, charting within the Billboard Top 40 in 2018.

Although the song's title refers to ice cream, Uchis laces "Melting" with a sweet, mellow warmth. It paints the honeymoon stages of a relationship in pink shades; you can picture blushing cheeks, fawning eyes, and shared smiles between lovers.

The high-profile duet, which was also nominated for a Latin GRAMMY for Record Of The Year, is an ode to the lost time in a relationship. The Colombian singers are in harmony as they detail sleepless nights filled with tossing and turning, blue skies turning gray. The song's use of popular Colombian rhythms serve Uchis well, further showcasing her effortless versatility.

Based on its title, one might anticipate "Your Teeth In My Neck" to be a twisted love song of sorts. The track, however, sees Uchis aim frustration at wealthy corporations for exploiting immigrants and working class families. From an immigrant family from Pereira, Colombia, Uchis understands the dangers of hustle culture and prioritizing productivity above all else.

With 10 tracks, Born To Be marks the first time ITZY will release solo songs by each member (including Lia, who is currently in a health-related hiatus), and the first time all members participated in writing and composition. To celebrate the release, the group will embark on a world tour, starting in Seoul on Feb. 24.

In October came second single "Tania," which pays homage to her late sister. Both songs were produced by longtime collaborator Andrés Celis. Recently, Tijoux announced that she will go on her first U.S. tour since 2018, as well as a string of dates across Europe and a performance at Lollapalooza Chile.

Compared to the works of Steely Dan in a press release, the album is said to explore "what it means to be funky in your 30s and 40s," and features 14 songs written and produced by the duo. "Adult Contemporary is a meditation on modern, mature relationships, which means: If we gotta sing about curling irons, so be it," said vocalist Dave 1.

Entirely self-produced, Girl With No Face is preceded by "Black Eye" and an eponymous single, and is slated to release on Feb.23. According to the Canadian singer/songwriter, its 11 tracks are "angry, stubborn, honest, dry, melodramatic, fast, and indulgent."

Jack Antonoff is one of the most important hands shaping the sound of current pop. His songwriting and producing skills crafted hits for a slew of artists, from Taylor Swift to Lana del Rey, and earned him eight GRAMMYs so far (he is also nominated for the 2024 GRAMMYs in the Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical category alongside D'Mile, Metro Boomin, Hit-Boy and Daniel Nigro). In addition to that, Antonoff also fronts rock band Bleachers, and is gearing up to release its eponymous fourth studio album.

Talking about the creative process of the album, the nine-time GRAMMY winner shared: "I started off sending one song to [producer] Mike [Elizondo], which turned into four, and it was going to be an EP. But the songs just kept flowing out of me, four songs turned into nine and it was pretty obvious this was an album." With the announcement, Crow also shared lead single "Alarm Clock."

Also of note: Lo Más Cercano a Caer, the stunning debut by Nenagenix. Fronted by singer Martina Sampietro, the band has dreamed up a ferocious collection of songs with inspired touches of grunge and shoegaze.

I feel like I've always been working up to working with these producers. They were on my wish list since I began making music. Working with them in person, I feel like I was being pushed by basically trying to impress them, like I wanted to make sure it was a song that I could imagine them having with another artist. It was just putting my best foot forward.

The thing that surprised me the most was probably the amount of trust that I had in myself. I hadn't really trusted myself that much before, and in this process, I was working with so many different producers, so I kind of held it together more than I thought. I thought it might turn into a big mess where you're like, Oh my god, I need to rely on someone, but it flowed so easily. I felt like I was in a really good energy for two or three months where I made six songs that I just really love.

It wasn't natural; it felt necessary to me. When I started off in the music industry, I wasn't really sure what I was doing; everything I released felt like trial and error. By the time I got to Last Year Was Weird, I was like, OK, we've been in the music industry for like, five years, and now we can't be reactive, we have to be proactive. So it just felt more meaningful when things worked out, because it was what I was setting out to do each time. I just wanted to make sure that I had control of the direction that I was going instead of being like, oh, this random song that I made in a session worked out.

Later in the telecast, Spanish pop singer Manuel Carrasco and Colombian artist Camilo performed an acoustic duet of "Salitre." They were soon joined by Brazilian singer IZA Texas-born producer/songwriter Edgar Barrera, transforming the Sevilla stage with Carnivalesque energy.

"I thank my father because he chose not to go to the movies with my mom, and instead stayed at home, made love to her and had me, the Person Of The Year," Pausini quipped. Her songbook evokes the golden era of Latin pop, a time of elegance and style.

In the Fire is a movement song. It generates physical movement with its rhythm and spiritual movement with its message. Hindu Goddess Kali dances in the fire, and is a fearsome, dark and very popular manifestation of the Goddess in India. She destroys what is ready to be reborn, and in this way she urges us to move through our own cycles of death and rebirth in attitudes, energies and our physical reality.

The Crow Women use this song in fire rituals, often while dancing around the flames and burning symbols of what we are ready to give up. Often we write a note on joss paper, or make an organic effigy out of sticks and dried plants to represent what we are burning. We can celebrate the joy of letting go, or channel the rage of the destroyer if we need it!

Kali performed the song on May 14, 2014, after her interview with Intuition on the podcast Kinda Neat. The video was uploaded on YouTube and reached 17 million views. She also performed the song recently on her New Year's Live Event on January 1, 2022

Speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Uchis said her new love song was inspired by something all-too-rare: the amicable separation. "I wanted it to be just an overall encapsulation of that feeling of releasing people with love," she said. "And one of my biggest inspirations was this song I used to listen to since I was little, Joe Bataan, I Wish You Love. And since I was little, I always thought it was such a beautiful thing because we hear so many songs about that, the bitterness or the anger or the feeling of wanting revenge or the feeling of wishing things had worked out and not having a resentful attachment to those feelings."

"Never Be Yours" She sampled "Oh Honey" by the Delegations for this song, and it is an absolute masterpiece. Unfortunately, it's not available on Spotify. However, you can find it on YouTube and SoundCloud.

Every time I hear this song I instantly feel like I'm sitting in front of my fireplace in my cozy PJ pants with some hot cocoa. It reminds me of all the seemingly little moments that all add up to make the season joyful and merry.

Source: King's Blue Book, Copyright 1926, 1943 by Charles E. King - Commonly referred to as the Hawaiian Wedding Song, King said he wrote the song while convalescing in Queen's hospital in 1926 for his operetta, Prince of Hawaii. Introduced by the Royal Hawaiian Band, this song featured a duet by John Paoakalani Heleluhe and Lizzie Alohikea.

There was nothing super adventurous about this album, and it seems like she stayed in her comfort zone while creating this project. Granted, the comfort zone of Kali Uchis is still an amazing place to be in, but it is still a shame she did not venture a little further into her potential. The repetitiveness of the love songs and similar production from track to track will make for an album that will fall out of the loop for casual listeners.
