Hello,

Are there any plans to release a new version of Oncotree in the near future? We've come across some subtypes that have no annotation that we'd like to suggest if so.

Thanks,
Samantha

Hi Samantha,

Yes, we are currently working on heme and CNS tumors and should have some releases in the upcoming months. But feel free to make suggestions here and we can review them as well.

Thanks,
Ritika

Hi Ritika,

Adding onto this thread. I can provide a couple of codes to address and happy to provide more if helpful. One big ask is around existing code 'Melanocytoma' which currently has a parent node of CNS. NIH thesaurus defines this as benign neoplasm that arises from the sun-exposed skin, eye, and meninges. It is composed of spindle and/or epithelioid melanocytes and melanophages. It rarely progresses to melanoma (https://evsexplore.semantics.cancer.gov/evsexplore/concept/ncit/C9498).

I am not sure why it's parent is CNS, maybe because it can arise from meninges? I've rarely ever seen that at UCSF and this is after looking at thousands of cases. Much, much more common is for it arise from skin sites. We get a lot of "atypical spitz tumors" which have a synonym of spitz melanocytoma/melanocytoma (https://evsexplore.semantics.cancer.gov/evsexplore/concept/ncit/C136825). We don't want to use atypical nevus for these because these atypical spitz tumors are more of an intermediate-type lesion. So the ask is can your team either (1) move MELC to SKIN node OR (2) modify existing MELC to be meningeal MELC and then add a cutaneous MELC under SKIN?

One suggestion for the CNS codes is to leverage WHO Classification of CNS tumors but one that comes to mind is PEDIATRIC-TYPE DIFFUSE LOW-GRADE GLIOMAS.

On the HEad and NEck track: inverted sinonasal papilloma.

Thoughts on melanocytoma?

Thanks!

Thank you for the feedback. We are currently looking at the WHO CNS to update the tree. This is what the new structure for the WHO CNS would look like. This would follow the 2nd option you provided. By doing we also stay aligned with the logic of uveal melanoma, which is under the eye.
