Hi team,

Thank you for creating and maintaining such a systematic categorization system for cancer! While using your tools to map some public data collections, I encountered a problem: I have some tissue sections where the origin of cancer may be COAD (Colon Adenocarcinoma) but the sections are from liver metastasis. So, the tissue may be categorized by liver according to OncoTree, but how is the cancer classified in such a scenario (it may be categorized by CRLM in some systems)?

Additionally, for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), do you have any suggestions on its classification or handling?

I really appreciate your assistance!

Bests,

Zongxu

Hi Zongxu,

For colon cancer found in the liver (CRLM), OncoTree would still classify it as the primary disease (COAD). The liver location should be captured separately as the metastatic site, rather than changing the cancer type.

For TNBC, it is not a separate OncoTree category for now, so it's handled under BRCA (invasive breast cancer)

Hope this helps!

Best,
Rima
