On a sunny but windy day in Carden, I visited North Bear Alvar and saw 10+ species. Numbers were low and most were singles, but Northern Crescents and Ringlets were common. Based on Ontario Butterfly Atlas data, I recorded new late dates for the square for Eastern Tailed Blue, Viceroy, Northern Crescent and Meadow Fritillary. Given the windy conditions, it was helpful to have a net and go way off trail to ID some of these. I documented many with photos that are posted to iNaturalist:
I'm pretty sure that a Great Spangled Fritillary was on the wing, but I did not get an opportunity to confirm.
