Hello. I use DualShock 4 and it works badly, in every game the system is emulating XBOX controller, even if the game supports DualShock4 (I check it on Windows). It is not convenient when you played for 4 years on DualShock and you need to re-learn the location of the buttons. And also some buttons stopped working correctly or do not work at all.
It is strange, but Steam Big Picture recognizes it as DualShock, but even there is no PS icons: square, triangle, circle and cross. Instead of them just a black spot.
How can I do so that the system and games do not emulate xbox, and normally perceived DualShock?
You are experiencing this because of Steam's controller settings. You can easily toggle off the support if you don't want it to be wrapped in Steam's "Steam input" that outputs as an xbox-style controller. HOWEVER, If you are just worried about GUI buttons icons.. sorry but even if you change it, most games don't have PS4 button UI options. Just going to be upfront about that.
If you want to shut off "steam input" for everything ( although I do not recommended this because some games lack native ps4 controller support), the option is in (Steam) Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings > then uncheck the box for ps4 controllers.
Also, I have already stated what you were experiencing was Steam Input. All this information is already easily searchable via the arch wiki and steam forums.
From Gamepad - ArchWiki "PlayStation 3/4 controller
For example Witcher 3 (from Steam), Detroid become human, death stranding and other games worked on windows 10 with normal PS icons and button bindings. It is very strange that they all work as on xbox, from this I conclude that the system forcibly emulates xbox.
Now, if your games from steam are having issues displaying PS icons that they normally should be doing just fine; then the game most likely has native playstation controller support. Turn off the Steam Input per that game as I have listed above and it should work fine. Other games have Playstation button icon display in the game options (though rarely).
If somehow none of this works but it should be showing PS buttons as the game does support displaying it, try and see if force running the game with Proton-GE support fixes it as regular Proton sometimes has issues with devices. Toggling between Proton or Proton-GE per game is good practice in general as it can be a better gamepad experience with one Proton over the other depending on the game.
Detroit Become Human should show PS icons if the gamepad is plugged in (not wireless) to a USB and Steam Input per that game is shut off ( source: PS4 controller :: Detroit: Become Human General Discussions )
Witcher 3 can have issues displaying PS icons. Yet again the controller has to be wired via USB for it to work right (and have steam input off yet again per game of course). If there is an issue still with it, a work around was posted a few years ago here on post #9 might help: PS4 Controller Button Prompts in Witcher 3 :: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt General Discussions
Hi. I solved the problem. Before that, I ran games through steam and lutris, today I tried to launch games through PortProton and everything works fine, the games understand that this is Dualshok and the buttons work fine, thanks for the help.

Summarize your bug My PS5 controller has mixed buttons when I use it. For example, when I press circle, the game thinks I pressed the left on the d-pad.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Probably how it messed up was trying DS4. Start DS4 > disable steam input > start the game. (that's how I get PS button prompts to show instead of Xbox prompts) It messed up my controller. Then I've tried to use default steam input again, and exit DS4. The computer detects my controller but not BF2042. Tried other games with that controller, and it worked like it supposed to. To make it detect my controller again in BF, start DS4 again disable steam input again, but now with messed up controller keybinds. (I've tried changing the keybinds too, but not possible)
What happens when the bug occurs? I've figured out which one is which when I press something: L2 is circle, R2 is X, L1 = square, R1 = triangle, the d-pad isn't used, the buttons are d-pads but X is up and triangle is down.
What should be happening instead? Should function as a normal controller like other games.
I've tried it all to fix this. Delete PROFSAVEs from documents, disable overlays, enable/disable steam input, ds4, re-install, etc. I think it's just BF2042 and BF4 cause I've only experienced it with these 2 games. BF1, BF5 and other games like Brawlhalla works fine.
It was fine in the beta and first the first day of launch, but I changed one setting and it messed everything up.
I was trying to record the problem where I play the game, that it keeps me looking down and can't look up with mouse or with the R joystick. Only when you press L2, the more I pressed, the higher it looks up. Also crouching/proning at the same time. But when I started the game, it said "directx function getdeviceremovedreason...". I just wait about 2 minutes to start it again, and it can succeed, sometimes.
The PS controller issue is nuts, tried my ps5 controller because of a deadzone bug. On a side note, when i use my xbox controller on pc for flight it always reverts to default scheme despite showing the modified button prompts.
I have the exactly same problem. I have Battlefield buy IT in epic. The buttons are mixed. I move up And down with X And triangle. R2 is jumping for example. Square And circle goes right And left .... I tried everything. I noticed that when i connect my controller the sound from the menu stop going by the headphones. All the order games in steam OR epic run totally fine with the controller.
Cemu is a Wii U video game console emulator, initially released in 2015. According to the description, you can basically launch Wii U games on it, and play them on PC (thank you, Captain Obvious). We have tested this particular emulator with Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and used a Cemu Steam controller set-up in reWASD.
You can create a keyboard config in reWASD that will correspond to the basic binds Dolphin has. The easiest and quickest way, however, would be to grab the Dolphin Steam controller config, Apply it in reWASD, and run the needed game in the emulator. You can customize the given config in reWASD to match your needs, too!
Another way around will take some time: remap your Steam controller to Xbox 360 \ One in reWASD, and then set up the keys in Project64 settings. The emulator recognizes XInput only, so a virtual DualShock 4 is not an option (at least not with the default Controller Plugin, as far as we know). Here are the steps you need to accomplish, allons-y!
Remapping is inevitable: you need to replicate these controls, come up with your own layout. By the way, we have made a basic ePSXe Steam controller config with keyboard binds, so you can try this one as well. Import this config, Apply it (or Apply the config you have made on your own), then launch the emulator and start the game.
This way, your gamepad should be detected right away. Of course, you can try Xbox 360 and DualShock 4 virtual controllers to make an ePSXe Steam controller setup, that would just take more time. There are so many more settings available in this emulator, explore them to find a better way to use Steam controller with ePSXe!
We really hope that this post cleared up the questions you had about using Steam controller with emulators. If not, reach out to us wherever you feel comfortable: Discord text chat, on Facebook, or on reWASD Forum. Make sure to follow us on Pinterest, Reddit, and YouTube to keep your hand on the pulse.
Is it possible to connect multiple controllers to a PC? If so, what tool did you use? Would it work with old console emulators (like Nintendo 64 / etc.)? Do all the controllers have to be of the same type? (e.g. all Xbox controllers)
I personnaly connect my Xbox 360 and DualShock V2 controllers at the same time to play Street Fighter V locally and have never ran into any problems. I'm guessing the issue you encountered was likely linked to the game itself and not Steam.
It really depends on the type of controllers, but generally you can plug in as many as you would like to a modern Windows 10 computer. Adding your emulators to Steam and launching them through its "big picture mode" will also allow you to configure the controller's buttons to act differently for all, or for specific programs/emulators/games you launch from it. This lets you use something strange such as an old Logitech flightstick with a game or emulator that is expecting a different sort of controller such as the incredibly common Xbox 360/Xbox One gamepad.
Windows maximum for all joysticks put together is 8 axis and 32 buttons in total. If for example each joystick has 2 axis then you can have 4 joysticks in total. There is no way around this unless the application you are running (game etc) can accept other kind of joystick control signals e.g. through the network.
Hello. I am using MSFS on Xbox and Steam Deck. It runs wonderfully on both formats except for one issue on Steam Deck, when I want to point the plane(s) downward or upwards using the left joystick with the Xbox controller emulator on Steam Deck, it zooms in and out! I have tried changing settings in every way I can but with no luck.
What is the actual correct term for pushing the name of the plane downwards and how is it named in MSFS?
I know people will question running this on a Steam Deck but honestly, it is fantastic. Being able to take the sim with you and play anywhere is incredible.
If there is anyone who can advise me it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
