Hi Community,
I need help in converting the data downloaded from Ona in any format to .dta format for STATA. It would be a lot helpful to know the quickest way to convert. Thanks for you support.

Hello Pratik,

You could any of the below options:

  • You could try to save a .csv file then just open the .csv file in SPSS and go to Save As in the file menu. It should automatically select .sav as the default file type.
  • Use an online converter such as this one

Please let me know if you require any further support.

Regards,

Evans

Hello Janet

Please note SAV format can fail if you have special characters in the name column on either survey sheet or choices sheet. The following rules apply to forms whose data is to be exported in SAV format:

  1. The last character of a variable name cannot be a period (.) or underscore (_)
  2. Use of special characters like > ( ) = . - is not allowed
  3. The first character must be a letter or the character @

Have a look at this guide for more information on valid SPSS characters.

Regards,
Samson

Hi Samson,

I am not able to understand how the system erroneously added 40 interviews to my submitted data recorded under a certain RA not deployed in that particular area while, at the same time, close look at my data reveal similarities with another set of data submitted by a different RA. Please reach out because now I have about 40 unwanted interviews and I need to delete that before I can download the dataset.

Hello Wilson,

Thank you for contacting us.

Ona Data cannot submit or add records erroneously. It is close to impossible for data to be added to a form without a user's intervention so I'm not entirely sure how you ended up with 40 additional records on your form. Was any editing of records/submissions done on the platform after data was collected?

Regards,

Evans

Hi Samson,

Apparently that is my situation right now. I have 40 redundant entries. Since I had 51 RAs collecting data from different localities, I created a cascade list for RA for every locality such that if you are RA X working in locality A, once you pick your locality then you will only see the list of RAs from that particular place but  from the download it shows they were entered by an RA working in a different locality from the one he was assigned. This is not possible at a user level. Would you like me to share more details?

Hello Wilson,

It still seems like the issue is related to how the data was entered by the data collectors. Not really a bug per se on our platform. Bearing in mind that it is possible for a user to send more than one submission for the same area since we don't prevent duplicate submissions.

You can share more details but I would request you share the project, in which the form is located, with onasupport and assign a Can Edit permission level to enable us to look into the issue. Once you have shared the project, please let us know the account name, project name, and form title. We would also request you share two sample records that appear to have the same data (redundant entries) so that we can try to examine the two from the back end and see whether there are any issues.

Evans

Thank you Samson.

I agree it is possible that an RA can do double entry however, it is not possible that an RA without permission to collect data in a particular study site e.g site A can submit data from that site where he has no right coz it is restricted by cascade list.

Thanks,

Wilson

Check the data collected in Migori county and submitted by Jasper and Timothy Lent, you will realise that the actual and original entries are those from Jasper while the extra 40 from Timothy Lent indicated to have been collected from Migori are redundant of what Jasper collected. Please do not interfere with the data collected in Siaya by Timothy Lent, only focus on the ones collected in Migori.

Thanks

I have taken a look at the data and there doesn't seem to be any evidence that points to the fact that the system itself submitted redundant records. I'm sorry but it doesn't really seem to be an issue related to a bug or glitch on the platform.
