Mary Banner needs our help. After months of grueling Hepatitis C treatment that failed, a diagnosis of liver cancer, chemotherapy, remission, a second liver tumor and radiation treatment, on January 4, 2014, our prayers were answered and Mary received a new liver. If you think the hard part is over, it’s not. Now she must do everything possible to ensure her body does not reject the liver, which she likes to refer to as “her younger man”. The organ donor was a 54-year-old man involved in a motor vehicle accident, to whose family we are forever grateful. Mary’s ultimate goal is to return to her midwifery practice, which is her passion.
For at least the next 6-8 weeks, she will have twice weekly clinic visits for lab work and once a week doctor’s visits. The round-trip mileage from her home is approximately 70 miles and each visit will require a co-pay. She is currently on an anti-rejection regimen consisting of three medications, which are minimally covered by her insurance plan. Just one of those medications costs $2,000/month.
As a result of her illness, Mary has been unable to work for the past two years. In order to pay her living expenses and costly insurance premiums, she has relied on her savings and retirement, which is now exhausted. It will be a minimum of 6-8 months before she can safely return to work. As a part of the liver transplant program, she is required to fund raise. Based on the advice of the liver transplant team, she will need to raise no less than $50,000 to cover medical expenses and medications.
A one-time donation or recurring donations can be made atwww.marystreeoflife.org.
You can make a silent auction donation. Contact Dee Gray at214.952.9808 or Randie Benno at214.537.6507 for drop-off or questions. All donations must be received by March 14, 2014
You can purchase a custom T-shirt, and wear it the night of the fundraiser to show your support of Mary. T-shirts can be purchased atwww.booster.com/marystreeoflife for $20 plus $5 shipping. All proceeds from the t-shirt sales will be donated to Mary. T-shirts must be purchased by February 12, 2014.
This is your opportunity to “live it then give it”.

THE DALLAS SEEN:
Many of Dallas’ most prominent were sighted on and off the Avenue last weekend. Here are just a few of those sightings!
Last Friday, the Great Guinness Toast was held at Trinity Hall and a great time was had by all! Marcus Blake and yours truly were two of the contestants in the contest. At the end three of us had made it to the end including Marcus, a guy named Mike and me. Somehow, I edged these great competitors and won the Toastmaster for 2014!

Later on Friday I traveled to Stan’s and my beloved Greenville Avenue for a Late Night Happy Hour and when I entered the establishment one of the first people whom I saw was “Bug”! He was working the bar and was happy to see me!
