Hello Dallas! It's time once again to take a trip down our beloved Avenue! And this weekend is the greatest weekend of the year! The Avenue will be awash in a sea of suds and green! Have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and may the Luck of the Irish be with you!

FOR SATURDAY 3/15/14 – PARADE – UPPER GREENVILLE – 11 AM
ON THE AVENUE – It’s one of Dallas’ most beloved events – the 35th Annual Dallas Mavericks present St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Greenville Avenue! Starting from Park lane and Greenville Avenue, the parade travels south on Greenville Avenue, finally ending at SMU Boulevard and Greenville Avenue. Just retired newscaster Gloria Campos will be this year’s Grand Marshall. Please come and watch the Mayor of Greenville Avenue and 17th Society group’s float! You may get lucky to get one of our 6,000 strings of green beads or 15,000 sheets of shamrock stickers! Look for the float set up to resemble a patio – the 17th Society Patty O’Party float! The parade has embedded itself deeply in Dallas folklore. It’s just what you do in Dallas for St. Patrick’s Day. With one hundred plus floats and attendance close to one hundred thousand, this “little” neighborhood parade rivals other top ten metropolitan areas such as Boston, Chicago and New York. Plus, the forecast is for 70 degrees weather! Note: my group has some room left on the 17th Society float for a few more riders. Please reply to his e-mail if you are interested. It will be determined if you have that “Spirit” that the 17th Society is known for having! There is a fee to ride, which covers float registration, building expenses, decorating expenses, etc., but it is the best way to experience the parade by being in the middle of the madness! (The Mayor of Greenville Avenue will make an appearance.)

FOR SATURDAY 3/15/14 – BLOCK PARTY – LOWER GREENVILLE – 9 AM
ON THE AVENUE – It’s the second event along with the parade that ranks as two greatest events that Dallas has to offer, and they occur on the same day! It’s the legendry Lower Greenville Avenue Street Bash! After the parade head to the 2900 block of Lower Greenville. This area will be blocked off until 7 PM for the greatest party of all! Join 15,000 of your fellow friends. The Mayor of Greenville Avenue will be making appearances at Stan’s Blue Note around 1 PM. I will be leading some constituents to the Dubliner through the street party around 3 PM. DART shuttles will be running free shuttles between the block party and Mockingbird Station. (The Mayor of Greenville Avenue will make an appearance.)

FOR MONDAY ST.PATRICK’S DAY 3/17 – PUB CRAWL – TRINITY HALL – 10 AM
ON AND OFF THE AVENUE – It’s the Mayor of Greenville Avenue’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl! Take off from work or join the pub crawl after work or whenever you can. This is an informal pub crawl that takes you to several of our best pubs on the most beloved day of the year! We will hit the main areas including Mockingbird Station, Greenville Avenue and Uptown. Along the way, we will hear great Irish bands and see Irish dancers. This year we are planning to do four pubs at least instead of the usual three. Here is the tentative schedule. 10 AM – Trinity Hall, Noonish – the Dubliner, 2ish PM – Black Friar Pub, 3:30 PM – Idle Rich Pub where Kildares play that evening! (The Mayor of Greenville Avenue will make an appearance.)

THE DALLAS SEEN:
Many of Dallas’ most prominent were sighted on and off the Avenue last week! Here are just a few of those sightings.
Several prominent figures showed up at the Quarter for Fat Tuesday including Chip, Ivan, “Corleone” Cline, “Capo”, “Showtime”, Pam “BBBRRR” Resvine (H.O.F.#121), Bowie Ballard and Dr. Joe! But the most dramatic appearance was made by “Captain Coincidental!” A good time was had by all at what is still the best place to celebrate Fat Tuesday!
*****
On Saturday night, several greats were spotted at the Mike Modano #9 retirement ceremony including Eddie D. (H.O.F.#141) and Randy “The Enforcer” Wright – the Captain of the Fifth Ward!
