GREENVILLE AVENUE FEEDBACK:
The Mayor of Greenville Avenue received an e-mail from one of my constituents – “Blue Sky.” “Blue Sky” stated that he likes the newsletter but there is no Greenville Avenue in the newsletter. He stated “Is Greenville Dead?” I replied to him that he was right that I haven’t reported much on Greenville Avenue and hadn’t been going there as much, plus I had not been receiving as much information about happenings there. I further replied that I will make a concerted effort to go there and pass on more Greenville Avenue information. I stated that the lowest part of Greenville especially has had resurgence, and that more will be in the newsletter as the St. Patrick’s Day parade nears. Thank you “Blue Sky” for your comments and I will assure you that you will see more about Dallas’ original and still one of the most beloved of all entertainment areas! The next paragraph gives the latest about the reopening of one of my all-time favorite restaurants! Also, there will be a return to Stan’s for a Late Night Happy Hour organized by me very soon!

GREENVILLE AVENUE NEWS:
From the 2/10/14 edition of “The Dallas Morning News” – Snuffer’s will reopen in its original location on Greenville Avenue. They are about a month away from opening the doors of the new building constructed on the site of the first Snuffer’s. When it opens in March, the new Snuffer’s will not be a carbon copy of the old. The old location was two decrepit buildings joined in an unholy alliance by the cutting of an awkward door and the placement of some narrow steps.

UPTOWN NEWS:
From the 1/31/14 edition of “The Dallas Morning News” – Updates – An apartment highrise is being built across the street from Hotel Zaza at Maple and Thomas Avenues. The vacant tract for the building is behind the Uptown Plaza shopping center. StreetLights’ planned building will have 212 luxury apartments and will be 260 feet tall, according to details filed with the City of Dallas. That would make the proposed building more than 20 stories high. StreetLights is currently finishing up work on its Taylor apartment tower on Carlisle Street near McKinney Avenue. The 17-story project has 308 units. “We are over a third leased and there has been a lot of traffic at our building,” StreetLights’ Doug Chesnut said in a recent interview. Three highrise apartment developments are currently underway in Uptown and more are in the works.

WEST END NEWS:
From the 2/10/14 edition of “The Dallas Morning News” – The West End Marketplace at Market and Munger Streets has been closed for more than seven years. Now a new proposal could see the more than century-old building repurposed as a hotel. Irving-based Newcrest-Image LLC is asking Dallas for economic development incentives to convert the seven-story building.

THE DALLAS SEEN:
Many of Dallas’ most prominent were sighted on and off the Avenue last weekend. Here are just a few of those sightings!
On Friday Liz Sochs hosted her traditional party for the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics and greats came out in droves including many of the old STACS group such as Pat Secho, “Canadian” Wendy, Samantha Best, Aaron and Cheryl, and Kevin “The Irish Bull” O’Rourke!
***
On Saturday I attended the Coyotes vs. Stars sold out game. It was also the night that Laura Mawhinney was recognized on the Jumbotron during a break for her 15 years as a Stars season ticket holder! She had a big group at the game supporting her including “Capo”, Karen O’Brien and the Fifth Ward Captain – Randy “The Enforcer” Wright! We all later closed down the Old No. 7 Club after a great Stars win!
****
Sunday afternoon at Trinity Hall another large group turned out to see Amy Vorndran Parrent and her husband Michael as Amy is leaving Dallas after 18 years and moving to Benton Harbor, Michigan. Their new home will be two hours from Chicago! Amy has landed a really great job in Michigan! Many, many greats including some making rare appearances showed up including Kevin Wilbanks, the Mayor of Gaston Avenue (H.O.F.#137), “Capo”, “Showtime”, Elizabeth Silva Conrad, Kevin “The Irish Bull” O’Rourke, Lisa Szatiewicz Krupowicz and hubby Eric, Amy Gavigan, Cathy Koslowski, RK “Killer Frog” Kelly, Julie “Jewels” McGowan and Meg Galligan!
