Dear Monica,
This email is especially for our teacher friends—and your teacher friends, if you’ll share it with them for us!

If you are an educator, we salute you for navigating yet another not-quite-normal school year. Right about now, you could probably use a little jolt of fresh air and inspiration to get you across that June finish line. A couple days at the School of Conservation is just the thing!

On May 13 and 14, Erik and Kris Mollenhauer will present Voices from the Land: Integrating Language, Landscape, Art and Culture for educators at NJSOC. This workshop uses the natural landscape as inspiration for participants to explore the power of written and oral language, digital photography, performing arts, online publishing and the power of working collaboratively with others. Through the Voices process, participants create ephemeral art using only what nature has to offer and write poetry based on their artwork. They then design and publish books and/or posters showcasing their art and poetry and share them with their school, community, and beyond.
This two-day workshop will guide you through the process in a hands-on way to ensure you have the skills and knowledge necessary to implement the program in your own classroom or educational setting. Voices from the Land projects have been implemented with preschool through secondary level students of average, gifted, or special needs, in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Turkey Spain, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Romania, and New Zealand.

Research reveals an ancient and intimate connection between language and landscape, a connection that is found in cultures around the world. Within each of us, there is a gifted orator, artist, listener, and performer. Join us on the magical School of Conservation campus as we explore the natural world, unlock these gifts, and celebrate their use!

Space is limited for this workshop, and registration is required. You’ll find more details on our website at friendsofnjsoc.org/events and on this flyer. A box lunch will be provided each day, and each participant will receive a Voices from the Land guide containing examples and instructional materials. Purchase orders from your school district are accepted. Let us know if we can answer any questions for you! You can contact us at in...@friendsofnjsoc.org.
