Our once Garden of Hope is currently being redeveloped into an Agricultural Hub and Sustainability Center to foster year-round community engagement, programming, and preparedness resources. This facility will also serve as the Newark SaS headquarters. Donations can be made through our website by clicking Supporting Newark SaS or via Zelle by clicking Supporting Sustainability.

Located in Newark, New Jersey’s lower West Ward (Fairmount Neighborhood) at 3-7 Fairmount Avenue, this Community Resilience Hub or Community Green Development will support the growth and sustainability of the local food system, amplify community-led initiatives surrounding environmental and climate justice, nutrition and wellness, and offer agricultural and clean energy education and training programs. It is our goal to also create pathways to green jobs and ecopreneurship opportunities.

This year-round, community serving facility will be equipped to support residents, coordinate communication, distribute resources, and reduce carbon pollution while enhancing quality of life. This site will contain the following features:
- Solar Charging Stations
- Green Technology (solar and geothermal)
- Electric Vehicle Charging Station
- Commercial Kitchen
- Community Room & Shared Workspace
- Cafe
- Hydroponic Greenhouse for year-round food production
- Sheltered Farmstand
- Toolshed
- Fruit Trees, Vegetation, and Native Plants
- Chicken Coop that can hold up to 20 chickens
With 65 percent of its redevelopment already completed, an additional $400,000 is needed to reach total completion. We are expected to receive grant funding from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to assist with reaching this goal.
By expanding our site to become a resiliency hub, it will significantly strengthen our community’s ability to respond to environmental challenges while offering educational and training opportunities on sustainable practices, ultimately helping to lower our collective carbon footprint. This facility will also serve as an emergency resource center.
