Hi all,
I know everyone is working hard with many tasks; and I am not at all a
computer-person, so don't know if this is easy or hard.

I am thinking of the educational component of the garden - which I
hope can include integrated pest management and how to avoid using
chemical, toxic pesticides. I think if we give people information
about effective pest control which does not include substances
dangerous to us and to the environment, and if we model this behavior,
they will be more likely to be open to it.

With this in mind, could we set up an easy-to-use way that all info
could be sent to a central place and organized? And then easily
accessed.

For ex - As I'm sowing Tansy seeds, I found some good info re Tansy as
an organic pesticide.
I saved it on my computer, but there is always the danger that I'll
forget where it is. :)

This is a suggestion, as things move along. Most important right now
to get those plants in the ground!

In the meantime, I will print out and save the info that I think is
useful. That is still the most reliable way for me, a techno-dinosaur.
LOL

thanks,
ellen

hm. i think for now we can compile all information through the google
group using google docs. if u want to send me info then i can upload
it. OR we can bypass that and jsut create a facebook page where we can
create notes and such w/ information. that may actually be better.

thanks Maya. for now, I figured out I can save my notes on my computer
and created a file so I will know where they are.
It should be ok as long as my hard drive doesn't crash. lol, which
happened once. Now I have a thumb drive, just have to find it.

then where ever we want to keep the data I will send it to.

Friends

Have you thought about setting up YouTube and Picasa accounts (or equivalent) for the garden?

I have found that photos and videos can serve as an invaluable record of gardens that both convey much more information than words (picture=1,000 words) and can be taken so easily - with effortless recording of date and time - and location if you have a gis-enabled camera.

Over time, the photo & video collection can also provide valuable data on how the garden is changing and evolving - including variations that may be attributable to from climate change - e.g. changing dates of indications of spring - as well as a record of vegetation & botanical information and capturing garden highlights

Btw, you might also want to capture and save screen shots of satellite and street views of the garden - the most recent satellite views from Google Maps are provide significantly better resolution than the previous set - and provide a surprising amount of detail. Btw, I just took a look at your garden on Google Maps and look forward to seeing how you are able to progressively transform it

Meanwhile, my best wishes for a wonderful and productive time

Peace Robert,

I agree with you wholeheartedly on documenting our journey through photography and video. And I keep failing to remind myself of this. So, thanks for the reminder.
