THE COMMUNITY AND LEADERS FROM THE TRI-STATE AREA WILL SHUT DOWN THE CITY OF NEWARK, NJ AT THE START OF LABOR DAY WEEKEND
Newark, NJ – They are calling on 1,000,000 strong for peace in streets! Inspired by the youth’s call to address the killing of young people, the community, and a broad collection of leaders, will host a massive anti-violence demonstration in the middle of intersection of the historic Broad and Market Streets in Newark, NJ on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 5:00 pm! This rally will inconvenience the city by bringing traffic and business activity in the downtown area of Newark to a halt. They will challenge Mayor Cory Booker, city elected officials, and the community to stand up, unite, and provide resources to stop the pandemic disease of senseless violence and genocide plaguing African American and Latino American communities in Newark.
Ras Baraka, Newark Southward Councilman, says, “It is important that everyone come out and support Newark, NJ’s major stand against violence in our communities.”
Donna Jackson, a community activist, says, “Too many lives have been lost, we must stop playing politics and address this issue now!”
Sharif Amenhotep, a member of the Newark Anti-Violence Coalition, says, “Point blank, we must liberate the Black community from the terror of Black on Black violence before it is too late to save our people.”
