Peace. Hope all is well. As for me, I've been busy, busy, busy, but I'm definitely making progress.
Now that the weather is trying to warm up a bit I'll be returning a lot of my energy to The People's Garden. There's still some garden development and plant cultivation that needs to be done, and I can't do it all alone. I call on your support once again.
We definitely want to use the most efficient and organic gardening methods as possible. I'm so thankful for Dina's mother. Her name is Maria and she's been coming to the garden since the fall of last year contributing her farming and gardening experience. It is because of Maria we are now growing tulips, sunflowers, and other flowers at the garden. I see, over time, The People's Garden becoming a food forest.
Your Support is Needed
Plants -- If you have plants (produce or flowers) we can give them a home at The People's Garden;
Mulch -- We are in need of mulch. Obtaining wood chips from the City is becoming very challenging;
Trellis -- We are in need of trellises and/or chicken wire;
Soil -- We are always in need of soil;
Benches -- We have the materials to construct at least two benches but need help with actually building them. Can you help us?
Raised Beds -- We'd like to construct at least 2 more raised beds sizes 2x8 but do not have the wood to do so. CitiLog located in Newark upcycles wood from fallen trees and sell the wood at a discounted price.
Other Materials -- We desperately need a 100 feet water hose, sprinkler, 4 rain barrels, and a means to connect the 3 rain barrels we currently have.
Social Media -- We are bombarded with advertisements daily from the moment we awake. Our fence could use some social consciousness artwork.
Recycling -- I want to build a few recycling containers like the one in the attached image. I went to Home Depot in Newark and I asked 3 reps there and they stated that they didn't have the material. Can anyone tell me how I can get the material to build these kind of recycling bins? I would like to put them outside of the garden.
I know we all have other obligations, but if you know of someone or an organization that can help us become more sustainable and visible in the neighborhood we're located in we'd greatly appreciate it. And please visit us at 86 1/2 Garside Street, Newark, NJ. We are near Park Avenue.
