Subject: ***PEDAL FARMERS -student employment opportunity
Good afternoon all,
I have been referred to you through one of Project U.S.E.'s amazing staff, school affiliates, community or sustainability enthusiasts, or other variety of supporter while seeking motivated Newark HS students for employment in the Pedal Farm Program.
The Pedal Farmers are a group of motivated student employees who work a 6 week paid position based on developing a business model addressing the issues of health, community strength and fresh food availability in the city of Newark. The program offers a week-long orientation to design the business plan, learn about methods of urban farming, community issues and sustainability while developing solutions for growing and distributing produce. The employees will additionally learn about bicycle safety and maintenance as they commit to decrease their carbon footprint by traveling on two wheels. This year there are additional new and exciting opportunities to bring together multiple generations and local businesses through the Pedal Farmer Program. Students who are hired will commit to 20 hours/week (pre-determined, consistent daily hours) from July 7th- August 15th.
Applications are currently being accepted for Newark students who are eligible to work/16+. There are 12 paid positions available until filled. Interviews are being scheduled to take place over the next few weeks for a start date of July 7th.
I encourage you to please share this information with any colleagues who work with Newark youth, or have an interest in the local community, science, youth business development, gardening, sustainability, or bicycling.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to be in touch!!! My e-mail can be widely shared!
Warm regards,
Lisa Ludwig
