I'd like to announce that I had a very interesting meeting with Councilman Darrin Sharif and others today at City Hall. Councilman Sharif is very impressed with what we are doing and I've added him to our Google group so that he can stay updated with our progress. Let's give him a BIG welcome! Councilman Sharif is also actively involved in the Adopt-A-Lot program and also represents the Central Ward, which happens to be where our lot is located. He would like for all those involved in the program to come together to form a Community Garden Committee so that we can share information and resources to build an even stronger partnership with the residents, City, local organizations, and Greater Newark Conservancy. He was also in agreement with me that there needs to be a radical change within our educational system. A learning revolution! Reforming isn't enough.

After sharing our story, Councilman Sharif was bothered with what we are currently dealing with and has expressed that he would like to help out, but Carol Harris has been extremely pro-active with having phone discussions with the owner's management and even made preparations to make available for us the lot that's located just two lots down from ours, closer to where Evelyn lives. Please keep in mind that this person doesn't own the entire lot. Let's wait for Carol's update and collectively decide what our next best move should be. Also, Carol Harris is also a member in our Google group and she understands our concerns and, trust and believe, she is doing all that she can to resolve this.

I also want to thank Brad Daniels over at Greater Newark Conservancy who's also a member in this Google group for trying his best at reaching out to multiple people and being in multiple places at once. This has definitely been a collaboration between the City, Greater Newark Conservancy, and SAS, but none of it would have been worthwhile if we didn't have the residents working along side with us. I'm so proud of the Garside St residence. Love does conquer all.

I look forward to seeing all those who plan to be at Saturday's meeting. We have much to discuss. If you would like to add anything to the agenda please let me know. We are still having material and equipment delivered to our lot. We will have a community garden and it will be on Garside St. It has been written! LOL

And please check out our Blog. Dina put a lot of time and creativity into it. Let's show her that she's appreciated! :-)

Let's continue moving onward and upward.....

Hi all,
I'm sorry that at this momentous time I may not be at the meeting June
2. Every Saturday we have an anti-war vigil here in Highland Park, and
even tho I don't go every week, I like to make an appearance. I won't
be able to be at the vigil or the garden on the 9th since I am giving
a workshop, so I feel like going to the vigil this Sat.
Oh yes to be in two places would be a great talent.
Anyway, I haven't yet decided, but just want to let you all know in
case I am not at the garden on Sat.

Thanks Tobias, Carol, Brad and everyone for your efforts in this
little crisis, which I feel will be resolved well ultimately. And we
will emerge stronger for being tested.
