We are excited about this year’s conference for a number of reasons. For starters, lunch will be provided by the Harvest Table Eatery. Also, our presenters will leave you with much food for thought. Here’s a brief bio of three of our awesome speakers.

Food Justice Presentation @ 12:00 p.m.
Dr. Judith C. Stark is a professor of philosophy and the environment at Seton Hall University. She was among the faculty leaders who created the Environmental Studies Program at Seton Hall (20 years ago). She regularly teaches courses in environmental ethics and environmental philosophy. She has deep academic and practical interests in food—its production, distribution, consumption, and waste. In her presentation she makes connections between food and the challenges of climate change.

Sustainable Community Economic Development Presentation @ 1:00 p.m.
Alfred Gill is the Executive Director of the Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Staten Island and Richmond Senior Services both located in New York City, and Sustainable Together of New Jersey. NHS and its affiliates are sustainable development corporations engaged in transitioning neighborhood and communities toward a more sustainable future. Alfred is a sustainable community economic development professional and practitioner who has focused his work on sustainable development through an integrated approach to developing sustainable communities where the needs of the present residents are met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.

Urban Agriculture Cooperative Presentation @ 2:00 p.m.
Emilio Panasci is Co-Founder and Director of Urban Agriculture Cooperative (UAC), and director of Planting Seeds of Hope. These nonprofit organizations are part of the Newark, NJ grass-roots local food and garden movement. For UAC, Emilio manages staff, oversees development and project budgets, completes grants, and still contributes heavily to the daily program work of the organization, including managing gardens, farmer's markets and composting projects.

Emilio has a Bachelor’s from Rutgers College Honors Program and his Masters in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers Bloustein School of Planning and Policy Development, with a focus on community development organizations. He has twelve years in nonprofits and urban agricultural projects, with a passion for social justice, community development, healthy sustainable living practices, and integrated neighborhoods.
