Calling all allies!
Stop Lemcor from Trashing Ironbound
The Ironbound community, where this facility is proposed, is already home to a myriad of polluting facilities, with thousands of trucks traversing it each day, a large international airport, and the second largest seaport in the country. There are already 35 waste related facilities. These facilities that process millions of tons of trash every year, for the state of New Jersey and New York. This brings thousands of diesel trucks to our community daily.
Now, the community has to try to fend off a new large waste transfer facility, which was proposed in 2006! The cumulative impacts from this site alone will result in significant environmental and public health issues for our community. This facility will bring over 400 trucks daily throughout the community.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) must deny the permit renewal application for LEMCOR Inc. waste transfer facility at 221 Foundry Street 07105. Newark is an environmental justice community as identified by both the NJDEP and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA).
There are several ways to get involved, you can attend and testify at the public hearing (details below) and/or sign on to the petition and give official comments. Please share the link widely, we need all of our allies to sign in order to stop the trashing from taking over. The link for how to sign on.
