It's time to take back our planet!

Much love and appreciation goes out to my landlady and G-mom (grand-mom), Mary Larsen, and her companion John for sponsoring me and Dina Rodrigues to attend the BIGGEST CLIMATE ACTION EVER in U.S. history. That's right, Dina and I rode down on a bus that was organized by the Food and Water Watch to help as many people possible make it down to Washington, DC to express their concerns on the devastating effects of climate change, to put an end to the Keystone XL pipeline, and advocate for a cleaner and healthier environment through renewable energy.

We boarded one of the two buses that left from Bloomfield, NJ around 7:00 am, stopped in New Brunswick and picked up more people, then fell in line with a few other vehicles heading to the same location. Despite the subzero freezing wind we stepped off the bus with signs in hand and determined to make our voices heard....and we did.  The energy was immeasurable. We sung, we danced, we beat on drums, clapped our hands, stomped our feet, and held our heads high as we moved "forward on climate". Most of all, we acknowledged one another.

I see you.

We realized that underneath our cultural differences, we are, in fact, one and the same. We all need a relevant education, natural health care, arable land, shelter, clean air and water, .

It was great seeing friends Paul and Sue, who I met some time ago through Ellen Rosner. They boarded our bus in New Brunswick.

We also ran into Charles Carrier, who also just so happened to board our bus with a group from the New Brunswick area.

I can't forget IB, who I met during my days in OWS, and who also encamped with us at Occupy Newark. IB is now organizing with Occupy Sandy.

We also ran into Mary Szacik and friend from the Ironbound Community Corporation while walking in the march and chanting. Mary will be presenting at our Sustainable Living Empowerment Conference in June at Rutgers Newark.

We met a lot of people and I personally was able to befriend a college friend of Dina's who's studying Sustainability Science at Kean University and has expressed interest in working with us here in Newark.

Then there were all those who were there but I wasn't able to meet up with due to the waves of people: Sara Hambelton, all those who came down from Occupy Trenton, and many, many others.

Onward and upward as we move "forward on climate".

I see you. That was, for me, the most powerful moment of the rally.
Those remarkable women native leaders from all over North America
acknowledging the interconnectedness of all of us gave me chills that
had nothing to do with the weather.

Tobias and Dina - how in a sea of 40 thousand people we managed to
bump into each other not once but twice is beyond me, but as ever it
was wonderful to see you and all the hundreds of NJ folks raising
their voices against the outrage of our government's complicity in the
climate change threat.

Onward and upward, in solidarity and with great love for this planet
and the living beings it sustains.
Peace,
Mary
