Newark Thrives! the Out-of-School Time (OST) Network of afterschool and summer youth programs in Newark, New Jersey, was officially launched in April 2016.The network was established as an intermediary to formally align cross-sector community stakeholders, networks and initiatives to develop and implement a long-term, comprehension vision and strategy that increases access, participation, awareness, and support for quality OST programs to provide positive outcomes for Newark's youth.

Newark Thrives! mission is to improve access to and participation in high-quality Out-of-School Time (OST) opportunities for Newark youth by leveraging resources, convening stakeholders, and empowering young people, families, and educators.

Key strategic priorities for the network are to:
  1. Generate demand for OST and ongoing support for providers and the network
  2. Promote equitable access to programs
  3. Strengthen the capacity of providers to deliver high-quality programs that promote all aspects of healthy development
  4. Inform and empower families and youth to select and participate in OST options that meet their interest and needs

The Program Manager is responsible for providing operational support, and implementing programming and communication strategies that clearly articulate the Network's mission and vision to OST stakeholders. The Program Manager will assist the Executive Director with:
  1. managing the day-to-day operations of the Newark Thrivesl OST Network;
  2. implementing programming consistent with the overall mission and key strategic priorities of the Network;
  3. fostering and ensuring smooth and open communication and collaboration among OST stakeholders; and 4) Co-chairing the Youth Advisory Committee.

The Atlantic City Corps in the New Jersey Division of The Salvation Army is seeking a Group Teacher to Work in the After-School/Summer Day Camp Programs. The Group Teacher will help implement these Programs, performing tasks as directed by the Child Care Director in the areas listed below.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • To support compliance with all state regulations related to maintenance of the corps' New Jersey Child Care Center License and with the Mission of The Salvation Army.
  • To effectively help children complete homework assignments, engage in enrichment activities, model respect towards staff and children and encourage spiritual development.
  • To assist in preparation of dinner as supplied by the Kids Café or other agency, set tables, serve and clean up after the meal.
  • To effectively support child safety procedures. To help with classroom set up, to personally greet children, to monitor sign-in/sign- out procedures and to help children maintain behavioral boundaries.
  • To communicate with the Child Care Director regarding classroom management issues as they arise.
  • To attend staff meetings, professional development, and program evaluations as requested.
  • To assist with record-keeping, with applications & for Program holiday activities.
  • To be ready to carry out procedures in the Emergency Plan for Child Care Centers as necessary.
  • To carry out any other assignments as directed by the Child Care Director.
  • Projected Hours: After School 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday / Summer Day Camp 8:30-4:30

Reports To: Project Director - Urban Education and Outreach

Job Classification: Seasonal Part-time: July 10 to August 4; 1pm to 3pm daily, plus training and preparation time (not to exceed a total of 100 hours.)

Job Description: The Summer Camp Teacher/Naturalist- Urban Education has duties primarily in the education branch of the NJ Audubon mission and provides hands-on activities, games, crafts and nature exploration at a school-based camp in Paterson, NJ.

They will work directly with the Project Director - Urban Education and Outreach to develop and teach the programs. The Teacher/Naturalist takes an active role in promoting NJ Audubon as a membership-based conservation organization.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop (if applicable), and conduct natural history programs for children.
  • Coordinate and conduct walking field trips within the City of Paterson.
  • Conduct one field trip to the Great Falls National Historic Park.
  • Programs will have a strong focus on awareness and respect for the natural world.
  • Participate in an orientation/training session.
  • Maintain lesson plans, educational materials and all other related programming information as required.
Other
  • Strive to increase NJ Audubon membership base.
  • Prepare written reports, proposals and plans as required.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as requested.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to accept direction and constructive feedback.
  • Motivated self-starter with capacity to work productively in a team setting.
  • Excellent organizational, time and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office), oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse range of people and exercise cultural competence and inclusion.

Qualifications
  • B.A. or B.S in the sciences or education, preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of natural history of NJ.
  • Prior experience working with young children in an outdoor setting.
  • Valid First Aid, CPR, and other public safety certification appropriate for the activities at the site.
  • Obtain a satisfactory background check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a vehicle in NJ or the ability to utilize public transportation to arrive at the job site.
  • Must have the physical capacity to walk throughout the land and buildings of Paterson, able to move materials and lift 50 lbs. and operate mechanical equipment as needed.

Start date: July 10 - August 31

Salary: $12-$15 per hour - commensurate with experience. Up to a maximum of 100 hours.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited college or university. Masters preferred.
  • Five (5) years of professional level experience operating youth programs in a large, urban school district OR other educational setting.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) and Google platforms.

Definition:
  • The Senior Coordinator is primarily responsible for the effective operation of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. The program services Middle School students. Applicant should have experience working with this population. This person will report to the Special Assistant of the Office of Expanded Learning Time. This position may also be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Supports the vision for how 21st Century Community Learning Centers will help the district meet its goals for student achievement in core academic areas.
  • Develops and oversees implementation of program schedule of activities every cycle; including schedules, staffing, spaces, transportation, field trips and special events, designing program based on informed feedback from stakeholders.
  • Facilitates obtaining and maintaining resources for assigned ELT programs and activities including but not limited to materials, facilities, maintenance, and security
  • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises staff, including volunteers.
  • Meets with staff, parent and community partners to ensure that formal informational strategies are implemented to facilitate communication and engagement.
  • Ensures that all reporting and compliance requirements for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant are met. Maintains financial and/or personnel records, payroll, and purchasing documentation as needed.
  • Works closely with program evaluators and completes required reports documenting program activities, successes, challenges and upcoming activities to central staff and implementation managers
  • Ensures that requisite program data is collected (attendance information, student demographics, etc.), entered and reported in a timely fashion
  • Attends required meetings and conferences.
  • Supports partnerships with community based organizations to improve and maintain resources for assigned ELT programs
  • Markets and promotes ELT programs within the district and community.
  • Supports cross department collaboration to meet program goals.
  • Responsible for periodically assessing all aspects of program quality using appropriate standards, develops program improvement plans with specific goals, and ensures program improvement goals are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
