Newark's Science & Sustainability Working Group
Mission Statement: Taking the approach of social entrepreneurship, we are an autonomous international working group interested in assisting communities throughout the country with the exploration and utilization of free, abundant, renewable energy through teach-ins and hands-on training. We will also promote and assist with the creation of community and hydroponic gardens to ensure that the produce grown is fresh and organic.
We are a diverse group of college students, professionals, educators, and technicians from Newark and the surrounding cities working collectively for the common good of all life on this delicate planet of ours.
We are currently building solar panels with soda cans, exploring hydroponic gardening, supporting and touring local farms, creating community gardens, and painting sidewalks white as a means to help reduce greenhouse gases and bring the problem of urban island heat effect to the attention of neighbors.
We meet every other Saturday, usually at Essex County College, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. You can also add yourself to our Google group [https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!managemembers/on-science-and-sustainability-working-group/add] or send a request to be added to organizers Tobias A. Fox (tobia...@gmail.com) Dina Rodrigues, or Monica (camps...@gmail.com).
