Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge

Applications Available Starting August 8, 2024, Applications Due October 8, 2024

The Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge is a competitive funding opportunity that will award grants to launch or expand workforce development and skills training programs focused on strengthening and diversifying New Jersey’s green economy talent pipeline. A total of $7 million will be available through this program, with individual awards ranging from a minimum of $250,000 to a maximum of $1.5 million. Priority in this grant challenge will be given to applicants that propose initiatives supporting training and job access for residents of Overburdened Communities. Proposed initiatives must focus on one or two (but no more than two) of the following industries: offshore wind, other renewable energy technologies, green design and construction, environmental and green infrastructure, grid resilience, clean transportation, and energy efficiency.

Applications will open on Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at 10:00 AM EDT and can be accessed on the Grant Challenge webpage and clicking on “Apply Here.”

 Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, October 8th, 2024 at 5:00 PM EDT

The Grant Challenge will be open to entities who can design and execute workforce and skills training programs. Eligible applicants can include, but are not limited to, the following: Community-Based Organizations, non-profit or private workforce training organizations, labor unions, technical high schools, county colleges, other non-profit organizations, regional workforce development boards, and for-profit companies.


All applications must include at least one Community-Based Organization with demonstrated experience serving a New Jersey Overburdened Community, as defined by New Jersey’s Environmental Justice Law. The Community-Based Organization must either be the primary applicant or a strategic collaborator with the primary applicant. 

Other key dates for the Grant Challenge include:


  • Optional Potential Collaborator Forms will be shared with all entities that submit such forms. To be included in the database, please submit the Potential Collaborator Form that is available on the program’s web page. Please fill out the Microsoft Form by August 15th, 2024 at 5:00 PM EDT. All information submitted on the Collaborator Form will be shared with every entity that submits one.


  • Questions regarding the Grant Challenge may be submitted via email to WindIn...@njeda.gov by September 6th, 2024 at 5:00 PM with the subject line “Questions – NJ Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge”. Answers will be posted on the Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge website by September 16th, 2024 at 5:00 PM.
