Good Morning All,
Recently I have spoken with many of you about my interest in discussing heirs' property with you. This is a very important topic for families but especially Black families and Black farmers. It relates to Black land loss, generational wealth, urban farming, and estate planning including the huge problem of people's resistance to creating wills! Attached are photos and a summary for the session I convened for the 20th Biennial 1890 Association of Research Directors Symposium held in Atlanta in April 2022. 1890s are HBCUs that are also land-grant institutions that have a history of serving farmers especially Black farmers and most are located in the South. We need to raise awareness about this issue in Essex County New Jersey and spread it across the state and the Northern states and the nation. My session was Special Session #14 "Creating a Toolkit: Heirs' Property." The Google links go to the photographs from the session. I look forward to your feedback and opportunities to collaborate on this important topic.
Could you meet with me via Zoom on Thursday May 19, 2022 at 6:00 PM?
