Hello Friends, Colleagues & Neighbors!
As you may know, I am working on a campaign committee called Newark Citizens for Open Space, an effort to encourage a Vote Yes on an election question that appears on the November 5th ballot.
The question is asking residents to decide on supporting the creation of a Newark Open Space and Recreation Trust Fund, which would create a dedicated source of funding for city parks, playgrounds, playing fields, community gardens, and other "greenspaces" in the city for recreational purposes.
This fund is crucial because without it, we could potentially watch over 20 million dollars in park and other greenspace development of the past five years waste away by deterioration and fiscal mismanagement. It is vital that Newarkers have an opportunity to learn about the ballot question and the benefits of what it proposes.
As such, Newark Citizens for Open Space will be hosting a series of canvass events in Newark over the next three weeks. To prepare volunteers for that effort, we are hosting a training session on Thursday, October 17th at 5PM at the Greater Newark Conservancy (32 Prince Street) off Springfield Avenue across from Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Please share the attached flyer with friends who may be interested in joining the canvass effort. High school students have an opportunity to earn 20 community service credit hours over the course of three canvass events plus the training session.
Feel free to share the attached flyer with potential canvassers. You may also call or email me with questions. I can also talk with parents or guidance counselors if need be. Open Space supportive documents are also attached to this email for your reference.

Thank you for your consideration.
Warm regards,
