We are looking for a part-time (15 hrs/week) Organizer to help coordinate our Camden/Trenton transportation campaign.  The position is based out of Trenton & would work closely with me the health organizers in Camden/Trenton.  It is a one year position for $15,000.  We are looking for someone with some organizing experience who can take initiative and help drive this project.  Please forward the job description to your networks & let me know if you have someone in mind that may be a good fit.

 

Job Title: Community Organizer – Transportation/Health Care Focus

PICO New Jersey is a network of faith leaders, congregations and federations working to increase opportunity and reduce racial disparities across the state.  PICO New Jersey is currently working in partnership with some of the most forward-thinking healthcare providers in the nation to create local health-delivery systems that improve health outcomes for residents in underserved communities and reduce overall medical costs, savings which can then be reinvested back into the community to address residents’ priorities.  Lack of access to reliable medical transportation services is a primary barrier to health that has been shared in many of the communities that we serve.  

PICO New Jersey is seeking a part-time (15 hrs/week) Community Organizer to coordinate our medical transportation work in the cities of Camden and Trenton, New Jersey.  The Organizer will coordinate a one-year, two-city campaign to address medical transportation needs and inefficiencies.  The Organizer will work with counterparts in Trenton and Camden to ensure the collection of stories, development of leaders, and engagement of provider and community partners.  The Organizer will develop necessary materials, coordinate multi-city staff, leaders, and partners, & plan and execute meetings with medical transportation providers and the State Department of Human Services.  In addition to the regular salary, successful completion of the project will be rewarded with a $2,500 bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Lead efforts to organize leadership team meetings within and across both cities, identify core barriers to medical transportation, and organize meetings with medical transportation providers and the State Department of Human Services
  • Assist in developing and implementing campaign strategies to win tangible improvements to the medical transportation system
  • Align the work of Healthcare Organizers in Camden and Trenton to ensure timely completion of goals including: survey and story collection, identifying and training community leaders, engaging provider and community partners, and preparing leaders to share testimony at statewide meetings as necessary
  • Assist Camden and Trenton Organizers in training and preparing leaders, providers and community partners for meetings involving leaders and stakeholders from both cities
  • Develop medical transportation surveys, draft reports, request and collect data from provider partners
  • Maintain electronic record of resident stories, surveys, meeting notes, partner participation and other metrics related to measuring the development and success of the project
  • Attend Camden and Trenton leadership team meetings as necessary to assist in development and preparation for multi-city meetings
Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelors degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong public speaking, writing and analytical skills
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills and interest in people
  • Disciplined and able to work effectively in highly unstructured environment
  • Desire to learn and openness to challenge
  • Experience working in communities of color
  • Spanish-language facility a plus
  • Experience in social justice, political, union organizing, community development or related work
