I reviewed the post completely. I thank you for the quick reply. You've displayed commendable troubleshooting skills, remarkable patience coupled with tremendous persistence to try and resolve the issue. Kudos to you for a job well done. It is appreciated greatly. It looks like a hardware issue with the printer as it does not copy also and needs to be replaced by contacting HP phone support.

You've been simply terrific to work with, considering your technical expertise and exhaustive technical skills. It has been an absolute privilege to share this platform with you. Trust me, I've done all I can to assist you, by keeping your best interest in mind.

I have an error of 1410 that will not go away. The printer cartridge had been working fine, then the printer said it did not recognize it. I went ahead and replaced it with an original Canon cartridge as usual and the printer is still giving me the error. I work off of windows 10 if that makes any difference.

I have already done as you suggested prior to posting on this forum. All the lights are lit. I inserted a brand new cartridge (Canon) to see if the old one had malfunctioned, to no avail. I can't get through to anyone at Canon.

If you are still getting the 1410 with both the old and new tanks the printer would need service. The printer has a 1 year warranty and you can click the link HERE to create a Canon account to see what service options you have.

Outside of the 1 year warranty, you can contact our sales department at 1-800-652-2666 to use our Upgrade Program. The Upgrade program will give you a discount and free shipping on a replacement printer.

We bought a new MX922 and it works fine wtih the cartridge supplier we use. As a last effort before trashing the non-functional MX922, I called Canon support and described the problem. The agent stepped me through some steps that were totally non-rational, but totally corrective. We now own two printers that work.

The problem is that the error-code-1410 screen gives reverse information. For example, if it shows PGBK as the failed cartridge that is the reverse of the actual fact. No matter how many PGBK cartridges we tried, the message came back that the PGBK cartridge was not recognized. In fact, the PGBK was the only functional cartridge. The agent walked me through a replacement step - cartridge by cartridge. First I replace the M (magenta) cartridge and closed all the covers. The error screen showed M and PGBK as the failed cartridges (totally reverse of the fact). I continued replacing the cartridges that were showing as good until the last showing-good one was replaced. Then the printer work up and worked fine. KUDOS to the Canon technical support agent.

I don't understand such reverse instructions. If I were looking for a bad actor, I would suggest that this is an attempt to have the printer owner take the printer in for repair and pay the charge for a simple, DIY repair, plus the cost of new cartridges. If that is so, this is a bad business model. Shame on you.

Thank you so much! Printer worked Monday, error 1410 on Tuesday, when i need to scan tax documents. Was ready to go get a new printer. Cost me two new tanks of black ink; (would not work unless I replaced those also). small price to pay.

So glad it worked for you AMK47. This was a major hassel for me, and I was elated when the solution worked. I now have two printers - the old one that was revived, and the new one I purchased before I found the solution.

My HP PSC 1410 hardware is fine but my hard drive was failing. After I replaced it, the HP all-in-1 software is missing. When I try to reload the software using AIOCDB_NonNet_FullWin_WW_140_408-4, that software tries to Uninstall whatever is there but never tries to install anything. I also ran HP easy start. That apparently installed a printer driver as I can now print but that software never completes and shows the "busy circle" forever. I ran the HP diagnostic and it downloads the AIOCDB_NonNet_FullWin_WW_140-408-4 again and when I try to run it that once again tried to uninstall whatever is there.

The scanner part of the unit looks like it has no software at all.

Any suggestions how to proceed?

Thank you.

Thank you for the detailed solution. I haven't tried it yet but I had tried some other things on my own before I got your post. From Start/programs I ran HP uninstall, which uninstalled a bunch of stuff. When I then ran the AIOCDB_NonNet_FullWin_WW_140_408-4, now it DID install a bunch of stuff including the printer driver. When I got to the last step, it did not install the HP Solution Center. When I try to run it, it flashes up the HP Solutions center logo but then in a fraction of a second puts up another icon and it doesn't run. If I run HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.52 and "fix printing" it passes all the checks and can print. If I select "fix scanning", the scanner runs, but I get an error dialog box with a red "Front panel Test: "This tool has detected a problem with the printer front panel scan settings. Start HP Solutions Center, then choose setting, scan settings, scan to... setup and add the available scan shortcuts to the printer front panel list to resolve the problem" But the HP solutions center doesn't run so I can't do this. The printer now prints if I print something and can scan via Microsoft. I will try your full procedure at some point but I'm using the unit at the moment. I appreciate your full procedure and will try it soon and get back to you on my results. Thanks again for your detailed procedure to resolve my problem.

Before I uninstalled I searched for "HP Printers - HP Solution Center doesn't open" on the web. I got the following answer:

"HP Solution Center is a printer management program for HP printers manufactured before 2010. HP Solution Center does not work when Flash software is not active on your system. Because Flash is no longer supported by the industry, HP Solution Center is also no longer supported." and the article gives workarounds.

OEM ink and toner manufacturers claim that the high cost of toner cartridges is due to the research and development of technologies to deliver high-quality ink and toner. However, it is worth noting that there are generic cartridges that exceed OEM requirements while being less expensive than their counterparts. CompAndSave's compatible and replacement ink and toner cartridges are engineered to meet or exceed OEM standards. That is to say; you can have the same print quality and page output without spending a fortune. Please keep in mind that using generic, remanufactured, or replacement cartridges will never void the warranty on your printer. I was having the same issue. This is how it began, the software was showing me warnings that the cartridges needed alignment, so I printed the test page, but the black ink was very low and the test page was printed with a bad quality, but I assumed it was going to work anyway.

So following the instructions I put the test page on the scanner and scanned the bad test page. After 2 or 3 scanned documents they started to come partially black (like 90% of the page) black, and then all black.

The first scan was not black, but the image was incomplete but not black anymore. I made an alignment test again. I closed the HP software, turned off the printer, then on, then opened the HP software, scanned a document and voila! It was good again.
