Is this the beginning of the end?? While the website is still up, it is very slow to load, and the Forum and most other menu options are not loading. Also, unable to login. Very happy I took prl's advice a while back when the website went down, to backup latest firmware and installation instructions. I'm surprised there hasn't been any other mention of it. If this is it, I hope there will be some way that all the Forum content can be saved and accessed elsewhere.

I saw that thread, but that seemed to be more about what to replace a V2 with, rather than the fate of the website. Of course I only read the last page, so I am sorry for offending you if there had been a discussion about the website in the other 49 pages!!

All of the Category list on the Beyonwiz home page work for me except for Accessories (and its menu items) and Forum. But everything on the Beyonwiz home page seems very slow, even when it works, and there doesn't seem to be much to buy there anyway.

I can only speculate, but I would nto think there is much money in the PVR market any more. It's expensive to develop and manufacture a unique product, even if it is based on a reference design.
Dwindling demand and massive pressure on manufacturing capability and supply of parts makes the sales side even harder.
Beyonwiz is a family business, so I expect that putting a ton of time and effort into a business that is just ticking over is pretty hard.

Having the community forum and open source firmware community is a big cost saving for the company. It mostly runs itself, (barring hosting fees) so managing to keep that part working would ensure some degree of support for the PVR owners.

I agree. I'm just waiting for mine to die, but won't be replacing it with anything. Streaming media has taken over for me these days and there isn't anything I watch on FTA that I can't stream anyway.
Gogglebox is a good example. I was recording it, then noticed all the episodes are shown on Binge, ad free.

No, I wouldn't have usually done so either because I have only ever had a DP-P1 and a V2. But it was pointed out to me that I should have searched before I started a new thread, (which I had done) and that was the only place I found any mention at all of the current issue. :-)

Yes, just came in here to post about it!! What a great surprise!! I hadn't checked for a couple of days, but I was having issues with my browser after a Windows Update, so as part of my trouble-shooting I had cleared cache etc. Then for whatever reason, I thought I'd give it a try, and voila!! I wonder when it came back. It was pure coincidence I even tried today!

I just turned my V2 on after not using it for quite some time and it did an over the air update.
It only took about 30 seconds. Firmware and Revision is still 20211010. Release is 19.3 but not sure if that actually changed.
During the update it said "obsolete removed" so just a tidy up I suspect.
Good to see they are still working with it though.

However, recently, the Beyonwiz.org domain was not renewed, and it was picked up by a third party.
This was a few days ago, so I am not sure if somehow, Beyonwiz has managed to get the domain back again to serve up the online feeds again.

Seeing as my Wiz isn't showing any updates at the moment, it doesn't seem as if there is any new dodgy firmware packages in the feed right now, but I would be a bit cautious with any updates until we know more.

As I haven't turned on my V2 for months I suspect it was that picon update as it removed old content.
If not I'm not really concerned if it bites the dust. I rarely use it and actually don't need it any more.

The real problem is if someone injects a malicious software package onto the V2, which then has internal access to your network. It could wreak all sorts of havok once it is safely installed behind your firewall.

It certainly shouldn't effect any of: your recordings or media files, your recording timers, your EPG or your favourites lists, apart from updating the logos shown in the EPG and the Channel selection screen. I haven't seen any reports of that happening to anyone apart from in your post.

I too saw this one small update recently.
I think it was an Enigma (?) component, updating from v...430... to v...433...
Given that these online updates are not under the control of someone we know or trust, I'm considering disconnecting my V2 from the internet, but not from my LAN.
At the very least, I suggest we change the Primary DNS on the V2 to 9.9.9.9 as it has the best malware filtering of all the major DNS services:
-security/phishing/malicious-site-filters-on-dns-in-2020/

Files aren't being distributed from feeds.beyonwiz.org any more, because the name translates to an IP address that isn't the feed server. The recent update to the picons came from a feed server that isn't affected by this problem.

I don't know whether the first part of the question is true, but the Beyonwiz forum user peteru is looking after the feeds problem as best he can, but he seems to think that there's little likelihood that the affected DNS names can be easily retrieved from the cybersquatters. His post about the cybersquatters is at =16&t=15204#p200794 on the Beyonwiz forum (open access to read, registration required to post there).

Thanks -prl-
I guess the only issue doing it this way is that picon updates from peteru may not get through either.
I might try blocking the 3 url's shown in the forum via my router for the V2 and T2 IP addresses on my LAN.

I run DD-WRT firmware on my router, so it's easier for me to do it there than the way shown on the forum.
But at least there are multiple ways of getting it done.
The problem is that many (thousands of?) users will never know that they are potentially at risk now.

Except that turns the Wiz into a bog standard PVR that you could have bought from a big-brand store anywhere.
The big draw of the Wiz units (at least to users like myself) is their ability to communicate on your local network for both live streaming and transfer of recordings, or playback of downloaded media from a NAS (or similar).
That's not to mention those folks who have subscribed to the IceTV service.

On the BW forum, there are now a couple of scripts to switch the beyonwiz.org feeds "off" and back "on".
I've blocked my T2 and V2 from accessing those 3 suspect web sites at the router level.
They're still connected to my LAN so I can access the drives.

name of file.sh

Place this file in the root directory of a USB drive
Connect the USB drive to your Beyonwiz.
If you see a message about no playable files being found, press OK/EXIT to make the message go away.
Press MENU button, then select your USB drive from the list of devices under the SOURCES heading.
Select the name of file.sh entry and press OK
When asked, chose to "Run Script".
You should see a screen that says "Execution finished!!", press EXIT three or four times to get back to live TV.
Press BLUE, then select "SimpleUnmount"
Select your USB drive and press OK to unmount it.
Disconnect the USB drive.

I've got the same two bugs appearing again.
1. Auto Timers recording two copies of the same program from the same channel but 10 minutes apart. Ie. That program doesn't even exist. It is also a different length to the correct program.
2. I reverted to manual recording to eliminate the above problem but now all SBS channels aren't populating in the EPG so I can't record programs on those channels.

Something that used to glitch the recordings also if they were set prior to the clock readjust, a work around was to delete all recordings set before the Daylight Saving change then cold boot and then reapply the EPG recordings. (I think I used to do it after the EPG refreshes on a following day from memory).

While have your attention I've never found out what the coloured bars mean when you pause a recording.
Green, Red and Blue.
I know the Blue one tracks where you are in the recording and the Green is the start I think, but the two Red ones seem to be random.

Just bought a 12 TB hdd for my T4 and when I format it through the usb slot it comes up as 1004 GB. Am I doing something wrong as I have seen on other posts here that there is no limit to the size you can use?
This is a nas drive, does that make any difference?

The most likely cause of that failure is the failure of the voltage regulators that supply the tuners. That's a known weakness of the T4s. If that's the cause, and provided the gunk that results from the breakdown of the heat sink cement that was used hasn't damaged the motherboard beyond repair, fixing it should be relatively inexpensive.

If I remember correctly there was a link in the tread to cheapy on eBay & another link to an expensive brand ... which I had looked at sometime ago but thought that $150 (or something like that) was a bit much.

Well, I replaced all the suggested parts in the power supply of my DP-litei a few months ago and it made no difference. It still plays up, a couple of hours into a replay. I'm thinking the HDD might need replacing. I have a few drives laying about. Do I need to format a drive before installing or put it in then format with the machine?

It's not possible to format an HDD for the old DP (and FV) Beyonwiz models on Windows to be exactly the same as the format that the Beyonwiz formats it in, because the Beyonwiz formats the HDD using a cluster size that's illegal on Windows. You can format the HDD on Windows as FAT32, with the biggest allowable cluster size, and it will work, but it will have a slower read/write speed than if formatted on the Beyonwiz.
