Dear brothers and sisters,
I will endeavor to answer as far as possible, some of the questions that are being raised by some of us regarding our anniversary celebration. I am looking forward to a really fun-filled weekend and I hope you all are.
The discussion for the 40th anniversary celebration began as far back as 21st September, 2016. I recall appealing to all our mates in the diaspora to make a commitment to the period that will be suitable for their vacation. We in Accra would then plan the event around their home-coming. I remember that there were contributions even on where to spend the time together. Those who stood out for me were voices like Afenya, Danny, Ababio, Amexo and Amenuve. It is therefore a bit disappointing that Afenya has not confirmed that he will be joining us.
The clear decision we took then was the date, 21st September and also that we would have the celebration in Accra. It was during the discussions that we said we will by all means incorporate something that will take us to Mawuli School, our Alma mater.
Since then, a planning committee was put in place to guide our preparations. Andy Hlomador, Kenneth Konu Grace Akar Annan, Clement Adjei-Brown and Korku Adovor.
Discussions have been going on on Whatsapp with occasionally updates by email. We have exactly one (1) month to our BIG RE-UNION!!!
The conclusions arrived at by the planning committee, supported by Justice and my good self, have also been communicated quite well. In my opinion, it has considered the views of everyone and I do not see that it has been influenced by one particular crusader. The programme is quite interesting. To recap:
Thursday 21st Sept., we take off in Accra, pick up others in the Volta Region and go to Wli Waterfalls, via Tafi Monkey Sanctuary. Then we return to Peki where our mates in Peki have offered us accommodation with some interesting twists.
Friday 22nd Sept. off to Mawuli School. Outdooring of our project, electronic interactive board in the old library. Next, motivational speeches from several members to the students. Meeting of Science teachers with Clement on teaching skills. Lunch with students in the Dining Hall. Annual General Meeting-business session. Tour of Mawuli School. Departure to Accra
Saturday 23rd Sept Dinner & Dance preceded by borborbor. Side-event, Fund-raising
Sunday 24th Sept Thanksgiving Service at Lashibi E. P. Church
The Dinner/Dance has drawn a lot of debate. Let me explain that it started off as a party of sorts. Ideas kept flying in that we should open up to other Mawulians. The choice of venue, Aviation Social Centre, was influenced by the contributions from members. In order to ensure that we do not lose out, I went to pay the deposit for the venue as it is a highly sort after spot and is fully booked far in advance. The budget for the dinner is GHS17000. We are selling tickets at GHS50 for a 200-seater. We have 50 extra tickets we can decide if we sell or keep and figure out how to manage that. The logic is clear that the tickets alone will not pay for the programme. My response is this and I speak for others who prefer not to talk on any of the platform: Our quest to bring in a lot of people can only be realized if we keep the gate fee low. 2ndly, if we only planned the party, could be in one person's house, we would not be selling tickets. Yet we may be spending close to GHS5000 just among ourselves, that is, if we have DJ, borborbor and FOOD.
If we endeavour to sell all the tickets, we shall reduce our our expenses by 2500. Besides, if everyone pays their levies, we definitely have more money in our coffers to wipe off all debt and start afresh. I suggest that whatever funds realized at the Dinner will have to go into a new project.
I wish you that you all join in and let's have a blast.
You ideas should keep coming. Korku Amexo, I miss you on the Whatsapp
Yours sincerely,
Isabella
