The Israeli military aggression against Palestinian refugee camps in the northern West Bank are part of a deliberate and systematized strategy designed to dismantle the foundations of Palestinian national identity and to obscure the historical reality of the 1948 ethnic cleansing by repeating the same war crime in 2025. The refugee camps of Jenin, Tulkarem, Nur Shams, and al-Far’a are now the focus of large-scale operations marked by mass demolitions, forced displacement, and the organized destruction of civilian infrastructure. Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction regards these campaigns as an effort to dismantle the political, legal, and humanitarian pillars that affirm the rights and status of Palestinian refugees under international law.
“The Israeli destruction of 512 civilian structures, the killing of 40 Palestinian civilians, including children and pregnant women, and the forced displacement of over 44,000 registered refugees from Jenin, Nur Shams, Tulkarem, and al-Far’a constitute a deliberate and organized military campaign of ethnic cleansing,” said Dimitri Diliani, spokesperson for Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction. “This Israeli military offensive is designed to depopulate areas that preserve both the legal significance and the symbolic continuity of the Nakba, and to sever the historical thread of refugee identity that has endured unbroken since 1948.”
“When Israeli military drones indiscriminately strike residential neighborhoods, when hospitals are placed under military siege and critical medical supply routes are deliberately cut, and when civilian homes are transformed into military outposts, the objective is the deliberate dismantling of the refugee camp’s societal fabric,” added Diliani. “The state of Israel is advancing a systematic plan to extinguish the refugees’ ability to preserve collective memory, sustain communal organization, and assert their historical and legal rights, chief among them, the right of return enshrined in international law.”
Fateh’s Reformist Democratic Faction maintains that preserving the refugee camps is essential to defending the right of return and sustaining the collective Palestinian identity. These camps are not isolated locations of temporary shelter. They represent historical continuity, political legitimacy, and national resilience.
