is anyone working on a gateway for paypal payouts & stripe collect?

there is a separate SDK for paypal payouts but it's not tied in with omnipay:

stripe collect:

I need to be able to be able to charge commissions in a store I'm working on for my site.  is there any other solutions to use with the current paypal & stripe gateways that already exist in omnipay?

thanks,

Andrew

PayPal payouts is for sending money to people, rather than accepting money from people. Omnipay is focused on accepting money from people. So you could definitely make something in the style of Omnipay, but it wouldn’t really be a normal Omnipay gateway.

I need to do both: accept money and then distribute out a % of the money that just came in as part of a commission.

I'm building a site that's similar to Etsy in that I'll be providing a store platform and then merchants will sell their items within my store. Part of how I'll make money to sustain and provide the site is by charging a small percentage of each sale.

So if a customer buys something from a store for $100 and I charge a 10% commission, I need $90 to go to the store owner and $10 to me.

Or am I overthinking this and will the current PayPal gateway with omnipay already do this?

If the omnipay PayPal gateway will do this, can I allow each store owner to enter their personal PayPal information into my system so they can collect money directly or will it need to go into my account and then be paid out from there?

Thanks,

Andrew

I don’t think the current PayPal gateway can already do this. Even PayPal views the two features as entirely separate products. You could definitely make something in the style of Omnipay that does payouts, though. I’ve considered it before but never got around to it and now I work for a different company. Maybe you could call it OmniPayout :-)

Although I’m not aware of PayPal providing a solution where you can just have the money go straight to the seller, I think Stripe Connect can do that. Sellers create their own Stripe accounts and you set up rules in Stripe’s system to pay them the 90%. In addition to this being simpler for you technically, it can also get you out of a variety of tax and legal matters because Stripe holds onto the money for you, so it’s their problem. Downside is your sellers have to make Stripe accounts, whereas they likely already have PayPal.

Not sure if you can send me a DM or not but I'd like to hear what your company is...

I think most of my potential merchants are using PayPal over stripe but I do plan on using both to offer some flexibility to both the buyers and sellers.

I'll need to come up with a solution to accomplish what I need it to do so I can get a small cut of each transaction...

I worked for Vimeo previously. We have a couple Omnipay drivers :-)

We have (or at least had) two different products that involved paying people due to an acquisition. One used PayPal and one used Stripe Connect. Here are the help guides for sellers for each:

PayPal: https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/235709888-Getting-paid-with-Vimeo-On-Demand

Stripe Connect: https://vimeoott.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360022895194-Getting-paid-with-Vimeo-OTT

I figure that’s fine to share since it’s publicly available information :-)

@andrew did you solve this? Basically you want to implement app fees for Stripe and use Connect to enable the marketplace functionality. Let me know if you need more help.

I have not, no.  though to be fair, my devs haven't really looked too deeply into this yet.

I just need a way to tell paypal & stripe (offering maximum flexibility to my clients) to send me a commission of all transactions through my store.  I'm working on a store set up that's similar to what etsy offers, though this is specifically limited to certain items my forum is focused around.

You need PayPal Commerce and Stripe Connect. Using PP platform fees and Stripe app fees method.

Getting a PP Commerce account verified is a pain at the moment.
