When you click to open OMNeT++ IDE, you get a pop-up error message stated that, "Failed to create the Java Virtual Machine".

I am going to assume that you have windows OS and omnet is installed on folder c:\omnetpp-4.3.1
Go to that folder and open ide folder so your path now is
C:\omnetpp-4.3.1\ide
Now open the omnetpp.INI file and change the existing values to the next values
-xms256m
-xmx512m
-xx:maxpermsize=320m

Done.
Good luck

I did these step, but it dose not work. i found  aother answer here http://ytbau.blogspot.com/2011/05/omnet-v41-rc2-how-to-install-and-run.html. it says "If you get the error message, "Failed to create Java Virtual Machine." by double-clicking omnetpp.exe at C:\omnetpp-4.3\ide\omnetpp.exe with OMNeT++ v4.3, type the "$ omnetpp" in the mingwenv.cmd terminal to open OMNeT++ IDE. A better solution is by restart your PC before double-clicking the omnetpp.exe executable file."

Hi,

Following values are set in omnet.ini file,
 -Xms256m
-Xmx1024m
-XX:MaxPermSize=320m
however still getting error  "Failed to create the Java Virtual Machine".

Is there any other work around to open onmet pp IDE directly?

Hello;
I tried the steps you mention when i got this error for the first time. After changing i was able to use for several days. But now again the same error message is popping. The configuration is same as  you mentioned. I dont know what is happenining. I can run omnett by clicking omnetpp.exe but not through MINGW32.
What is the problem? If i run from .exe there is always an error related to g++.. in the console of omnet...

thanks..

Hi Salem,

I was following the Veins tutorial and I was about to run the omnetpp.ini when I got the same error as above:

<!> Error in module (cCompoundModule) RSUExampleScenario (id=1) during network setup: Class "Veins::ObstacleControl" not found -- perhaps its code was not linked in, or the class wasn't registered with Register_Class(), or in the case of modules and channels, with Define_Module()/Define_Channel().

But I didn't understand the solution from the previous answers.

Thanks in advance for your help
Regards
FMA
