Dear OMNeT++ users,

please welcome our new website. We have decided to re-create the OMNeT++ website from scratch to improve its speed and usability. The new website is statically generated and hosted on github, which will considerably improve its speed. Additionally, the download files are no longer hosted on the website directly, but instead they are available on [IPFS (Interplanetary File System)](https://ipfs.io/). We still provide an HTTP gateway for the file downloads, to make it easy to download the files using only a browser. This will allow you to use various command line tools to directly download the distribution, because we were able to get rid of the captcha requirement, too. All OMNeT++ downloads are available now on [ipfs.omnetpp.org](https://ipfs.omnetpp.org).

Until now, the OMNeT++ website was running on Joomla and all OMNeT++ downloads were hosted on our own website. This led to several issues that caused a lot of pain in the past:
  • Running a full blown CMS on the website constantly exposed us to security issues. Keeping the website up to date and clean required a lot effort on our side that could have been spent better elsewhere...
  • As the downloads were hosted on the website, we were constantly the target of download abuse. Certain actors on the internet (khmm...) were continuously downloading the biggest files possible in a loop to cause harm and make the site struggle.
At the end, we have decided to host the website on github and move all the file downloads to IPFS. This new setup will hopefully serve us much better in the future. Please enjoy the new website and let us know if you find issues. Also, if you happen to run an IPFS node (and have some extra storage and bandwidth), you can help us mirroring the OMNeT++ download files by pinning them on IPFS:

> ipfs pin add /ipns/ipfs.omnetpp.org

Thank you for your work! Having a download link without a captcha is a great improvement.

I myself hated that capcha thing, but I had to do something to limit those download suckers a bit...
Please note that the current directory structure will change, too (probably today). So please wait with updating your scripts :)

Right now the URLs are not stable, which I don't like. I.e. the current version is in the 'release' dir and once a new version comes out, that would be moved to the 'old'. This is bad. I will create separate directories for each version, so we could finally have a stable URL that can be used in automated tests, docker images etc.

I will post an update here, when it's done.

The download URLs are now stable and will not change over time.

The IPFS gateway is running on a CDN (cloudflare) and it's possible that the specific node near you does not provide it correctly.
You can try a different IPFS gateway, like:

Thanks for reporting. This was related to our new website which was serving all content via HTTPS. It should be fixed, now.

Hmm. I just tried it again and it is still working. Probably the CDN servers around you are sill caching some data.

Yould you please try this URL in your browser?

It should return inet.xml and inet3.xml and the given page should be an HTTP (i.e. non encrypted)
