Hello OMNET++ professionals,
I have just newly started OMNET but I have problem finding good reference for its syntax and coding.
The built-in examples are clear, but for starting to write my own code, I do not have any idea to use which kind of commands, methods, classes, etc.

For example for a simple ring network with some simple packet forwarding features, how can I start coding in OMNET++ ?
What I realized from examples, OMNET++ uses a lot of its classes which are far from normal C++ coding.

I appreciate if any body could help me on this issue.

Warm Regards
Mike

Did you do the TicToc tutorial? It should give you an idea about different file types in omnet.

What's wrong with the TicToc tutorial and the UserManual in the doc folder?

Hello Rudolf,

I guess the tictoc example is not the problem. It is a clear isolated example.
However, when you want to develop some new protocol as part of TCP/IP, for example, the tictoc example does not help you.
As developing something that needs to fit into an existing architecture, you are depending on examples and documentation.
I also struggle with developing a protocol, in my case within TCP/UDP and I hit all kinds of unclarities which are not covered in either documentation or examples.

So, Mike, what I did is take an existing protocol that closely fits my requirements and start tuning it. However, it took quit some time to copy that existing protocol and get the naming and dependencies correct in order fit it into the existing architecture and work from there.

Rudolf, If I am more skilled I may document what I did and my work (PhD research) could be used as an humble example?

regards,
Frank

Hello sir,

This is Abdul Malik .Me and my team have started working on a project based on vehicular adhoc networks.we have integrated the omnet++ with sumo and veins.we have developed a protocol which we want to implement using any of the existing  veins examples i.e, inserting our own algorithm into any of the examples.we came to know that you have done a similar thing.Sir, we would like to  know how you have used an existing example and inserted your own code.

Any help from you would be very much appreciated.

Thanking you sir,
