Dear all,

Could you please indicate me how to properly update Omnet++ under Debian? If I choose help –> check for updates within the IDE, it says that there are no update sites to search. Which are the correct repositories to place in Available Software Sites?
Would it also be possible to update from 4.1. to 4.2 via this way?
What about the frameworks, especially INETMANET? Is ist possible to update them as well?

Many thanks in advance, regards
Christian

I think we also have to update Debian first before updating the
omnetpp.

If you have downloaded the code using git you can update the code easily with the command git pull

thanks for the hint. Unfortunately I haven’t used git in the first place, but I will try to migrate the additional files I’ve created with a new installation via git.

In this case, use git clone in a different directory and later, with winmerge or some similar program move your changes to the synchronized repository

OMNeT++ must be updated by downloading a TGZ from omnetpp.org. You cannot update only the IDE (using the update mechanism), you must update the whole distro (simkernel+IDE) at the same time.

Using a tgz means unpacking, configuring and building the entire code? So shall I just start a regular installation in the main Omnet directory?
How do you generally update IDE, simulation kernel and framework without losing data or settings?

Usually you should work in a directory (workspace) outside of the omnetpp root directory so simply deleting the old installation will not lose any settings... If you happen to work in the samples directory then you should copy/mode your projects out from "samples".

Installing omnetpp over an existing installation is call for trouble. You always have to do a clean install, then configure and make.

The best prectice is to keep a workspace where you store your projects and point to that workspace after an isntallation.

Yes, my workspace is placed in an external directory, though INETMANET is included here as well. Talking of clean install, is there a way to deinstall Omnet as well, or can I just delete the entire folder? I couldn’t find any documented information on deinstallation.

Just delete the old folder. OMNeT++ does not write anything outside of its folder.
