Hi folks,

I have just installed OMNeT++4.0 on an Ubuntu 9.10 box (core 2 quad intel with 2 GB memory). I can run all the sample simulations successfully (i.e. OMNeT++ Tkenv works fine), but I fail to get the IDE to work. Every time that I run 'omnetpp' in the terminal, it first asks me for the workspace, and then an empty error-like window pups up titled 'Omnetpp', but there is no message in it! It seems that there should be something wrong with eclipse, but I have no idea as to what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

This is a known problem caused by he incompatibility between eclipse 3.4 and certeain versions of XULRunner components (coming with firefox)

See the bottom of page (first issue):

Hi Ali,

When you type omnetpp in the terminal it will ask you for workspace path, mention  path of the drive where you have installed your omnetpp then it should start and you can work with your samples.

All the best

Thanks Rudolf. Based on what you mentioned, I found a solution in some older posts in omnetpp mailing list. Just for the record, here I quote the steps:
  1. Install Ubunu eclipse.
  2. Delete file: org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.4.1.v3449c.jar from /omnetpp-4.0/ide/plugins
  3. Copy file: org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.5.1.v3555a.jar from /usr/lib/eclipse/plugins/ to /omnet-4.0/ide/plugins
After this, you should have the omnet IDE working.

Once again I appreciate your help, Rudolf.

Yes, it's a problem between swt in eclipse 3.4 version and the mozilla xulrunner...
This will be resolved once we move to omnetpp 4.1 which will come with an IDE based on eclipse 3.5.1.

Until then, this is a usable workaround...
