The mantra is a power propelling us towards that ETERNAL TRUTH. This power blended in the mantra is the spiritual power of the GURU. Diksha is not just utterance of words, it is bestowing spiritual power. Thakur says that a Satguru confers mantra not only into the ears but also 
into the heart of his disciple. 

Thakur has prescribed chanting of 'hare krishna' mahamantra for everyone-

A TRANSLATED QUOTE FROM 'SUDHAR DHARA'- 
Chant Nam, chant Nam, chant always, 
By chanting Nam all sins regress. 
Less material desires mean regression of sin, 
Names of sages-gurus develop interest within. 
Interest in Nam is enhanced gradually, 
Worldly desires then vanish completely. 
Petty mundane desires don’t arise any more, 
Eternal bliss appears, in the heart’s core. 
That eternal bliss does not have limit, 
Blessed is his birth, whoever attained it. 
Like bee’s honey-suck is the joy of world, 
Experiencing it for many births, you’ve suffered. 
To the power of Nam, if you resort, 
The wish for material joy, will abort. 
Not noting whether it remains or is gone, 
Just chant Nam by sitting alone. 
If you can’t do that, still no fear, 
Das Sitaram just call Him, O dear.
