Hey,

I just looked at the syllabus and realized that really there are only three weeks left to get the project together as we present the week after Thanksgiving. It doesn't look too hard, but it would be great to have it done before the holiday week. With that I wanted to put the question out to the group about planning for the project.

Who is free next week to meet to discuss the project? Anyone up for meeting after class on Monday?

Yes ,no minimization problems to solve. But the professor said some basic questions on minimization method shall be asked.

hi all,

sorry but just to confirm there is not going to be a minimizing problem on the test, correct??

Sidra,

Look for the shadow prices of the non basic variables, if one or more of those variables has the value '0' then  multiple optimal solution exists.(check #4 a: shadow price of x4(unused sewing time) =0).

Does anyone have a very concise way of explaining how to spot multiple optimal solutions in the excel solver report? Which cells should I look at and what should I expect in them? I understand all the other scenarios but often get confused on this one.

Thanks,

I think he said the simplex prob is a maximization prob with 2 var and 2 constraints. So no artificial vars there. The rest of exam will definitely have some ques about those...

Does anybody remember the professor saying that we do not need to do a minimization problem? Did he mean that there are no questions about minimization? Specifically, do we need to know artificial variables and the Dantzig 2 phase method?

Great.  I think we can just stay in the classroom after class on Monday.  It looks like we need to find a linear programming solution to a real-world problem.  It can be something from our work situations or a made up problem.

Have a great weekend and see everyone on Monday.
