I have done unsupervised clustering to all the samples (each taken from a different patient) I have, and I see 4 gene modules, each consisting of 12 genes.

I could not understand how these gene modules were created and how these genes were selected?

Can anybody help me, please?

Thank you very much in advance.

Best,
Murat

The heatmap clusters genes by hierarchical clustering. The number of genes per group is dependent on the clustering so if each group has 12 genes that might be just by chance. You can change the number of gene groups in the settings. By defaults, the genes are selected by SD, so the most varying genes (with highest variance/SD) are selected. The highest varying genes often contain the largest differences between conditions. This is a unbiased way to prioritize genes/features.
