SEC-A
1) W.r.t competitiveness, study some job profiles in any two of the
companies coming for placement. Justify the following statements:
a. "Engineers unable (and/or not allowed) to engineer" & "Managers
unable (and/or not allowed) to manage"
b. Is there any mismatch with their job profiles?
c. Avoid repetition with other teams.
2) Refer Question 3-2 in your text book: Look around your classroom
and make a list of items that impede your ability to learn. Classify
them as problems in quality of design or quality of conformance.

SEC-B
1) Focus on the mission statements of any two companies (avoid
repeating with other teams) to identify the possible corporate
strategies. Show how operations strategies can support these mission
statements (the corporate strategy). [Also refer Question 2-1 in your
text book. What do these mission statements tell you about the
organizations? Is their mission or vision reflected in the way they do
their business?]


2) Refer Question 2-15 in your text book: Examine the annual reports
of a company of your choosing over three years. Use quotes from the
reports to describe the company's overall strategy and its specific
goals each year. How well do you think the company deploys its
strategy? Avoid repetition with other teams.


SEC-C
1) Refer Question 3-3 in your text book: Give an example of product or
service you have encountered that was poorly designed. Read about more
bad designs at the bad designs Web site http://www.baddesigns.com/ .
Make a list of factors that make a design unworkable.

2) Refer Questions 3-4 to 3-9 in your text book. Present your response
to any one of those questions.


SEC-D
1) Refer Question 3-18 in your text book: The Environmental Protection
Agency promotes "extended product responsibility". Visit http://www.epa.gov/epr
to read US government's commitment to environmental product design.
Compare the US approach to that of India. [Refer Question 3-19 for any
further hints related to green design initiatives]


This question is to be done together in groups of 24……

1) Take any product or service of your choice. Identify a list of
customer requirements (both stated and unstated). Develop a completed
House of Quality matrix. Here two sections could be customers while
two other sections could be the providers. Apart from various design
considerations, show how you are giving importance to environmental
aspects in the design stage.
