My friend Tim is guiding me in installing OMEKA on a server at Boise State University.  I of course am clueless and out of my depth.  Can you kind people help me understand what this issue is really about.  Can it be resolved?

He sends the following:

Checking the requirements I've ran into an issue with PHP.  Red Hat provides for PHP 5, Omeka requires PHP 7.  I do not have access to a repository that provides support  for PHP 7.

MariaDB Red Hat version is 5.5, Omeka requires 10
or
MySQL Red Hat version is 5.4, Omeka requires 5.6

Obviously https is not an issue but the other requirements are and I will need to have the address to repositories that Omeka supports in order to perform the install.  My suggestion is to get with them, let them know you're running Red Hat RHEL7 (the latest version) and that Red Hat does not support the version needed for their application.  Once I have the address to the supported repositories I can configure them and will leverage their repos.

Note this will cause issues as I'm sure we will run into conflicting libraries as well as Red Hat package conflicts.

Lawrence,

I think there’s a miscommunication somewhere. Omeka doesn’t require PHP 7, or MariaDB 10, or MySQL 5.6.

The requirements are listed at http://omeka.org/codex/Preparing_to_Install and are quite forgiving: PHP 5.3.2 or higher and pretty much any version of MySQL 5.

Omeka S, which is new software currently in beta, has higher requirements but even it doesn’t require PHP 7.
