Hi All,
While we can import data in CSV format, would there be any quick way to export the metadata of item into an excel spreadsheet?
Thanks in advance for your advice.
Merry X'mas!

I would also be interested if/when an export plugin is available.

I think the closest you can do is to install the OAI-PMH repository plugin, and then use the OAI-PMH repository to get XML of the metadata.  To get XML records, you would put in your base URL plus /oai-pmh-repository/request?verb=ListRecords&metadataPrefix=oai_dc .  There is a maximum number of records that will be returned.  To change that, change the maximum number of records to display per page which will also increase your memory usage.  It's clunky.

I know this has come up before, but all I know about with previous discussions on exporting are http://omeka.org/forums/topic/export-dublin-core-from-omeka and https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/omeka-dev/IhV9Hlyw1rE .

Am I missing the obvious, or is anyone working on an export plugin?

An improved import/export mechanism is definitely on our radar. Ideally, we'll draw on the lessons learned from various other plugins that people have built for connecting Omeka to other applications.

I can't offer an ETA for those improvements yet, though.

Hi there - I've been looking for an export plugin for Omeka, and it seems there are a variety of solutions (using the OAI-PMH output, an XML export option, using the API, etc), and people have been working on this for years without producing an official "Export Plugin". We would love a simple CSV export. I wonder if there are any plans to make the Omeka.net CSV export plugin available to the public?

Thanks!
Caitlin

Caitlin,

The Omeka.net CSV export probably will not be made generally available, in large part because it is for Omeka 1.5 and we are trying to push development on Omeka 2.x - based solutions. The replacement for that plugin will allow importing from Omeka to Omeka using the API. Building off the API is likely the best way to go for cases where the OAI-PMH or XML doesn't fit your needs.
