Unfortunate news: the Google machine translation function no longer
works in OmegaT+. Google is stopping the service, as implemented in
OmegaT+, and has a new one which users have to pay for. I can't see
that users really want to pay, even though the cost is not much, but
there are other complications also involved. Oh well, back to the
drawing board. Will have to remove the feature, add different service
for MT in future versions. I think it will also mess up the web pages
for OmegaT+.

We'll find out on December 1, 2001 for certain. Completely out of my
hands.

Thanks for your understanding.

Hi all,

as far as I have heard, the service by Google is available though with Input-limitations...I suggest getting in contact with Jonny Cheng at google...johnny@google.com, to get more details about that.

Actually, the information I have comes straight from the Google pages
detailing the decommission of the version 1 API, and the installation
of version 2 in its place, with the need for upfront payment for all
use as of December 1 of this year.

I suppose you are talking about the news post of April of this year?. The details I mentioned have been provided by TRados Sales People (limitation above 150.000 characters? words?) approx. one month ago. I would synthetize saying that, us usual with BigG strategies, darkness is the main certainty...Whether they are also so restrictive with
OpenSource projects?

AFAIK, the restriction is across the board.

There was a grace period, certain amount allowed with version 2 of the
Google MT API.
That is finished on December 1 coming up.

Whoever tries to use their service for translation programmatically
will have to pay.

Hope that is clear enough.

This is great information. Could you provide the official link? I know of an entire company relying on this service.

Thanks
