Patricia C. Dykes, PhD, MA, RN, FAAN, FACMI is research program director, Center for Patient Safety, Research, and Practice at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, Boston. She is an internationally recognized nurse scientist and biomedical informatician who has developed, integrated into practice, and broadly disseminated innovative, cost-effective health information technology tools.
Kathryn H. Bowles, RN, PhD, FACMI, FAAN is professor and van Ameringen Chair in Nursing Excellence at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Pennsylvania, and VP and Director of the Center for Home Care Policy & Research, VNS Health, New York. She has implemented a learning health system through rigorous evidence in transitional care and advances in health information technologies.
Initially introduced to the Omaha System in 1993, Kathy conducted the first Omaha System study in acute care, has published numerous articles about the Omaha System, and is co-authoring Chapter 5, Use of the Omaha System in Research, with Karen Monsen for the next Omaha System book. She has been an Omaha System Board member since 2001. In 2024, Kathy and her team obtained a new ICD-10 code for sepsis survivors, and contributed her expertise to the Omaha System problem revision.
