Man, if only there were a way to automatically populate the website with stuff that shows up on G+.  The group as a whole is prolific on the interwebs, but it just rarely shows up on the website.  Let's just make omahamakergroup.org an amalgamation of member posts! But how?

I have no idea!

Maybe there's an answer somewhere in here:

Anyone else know how it could be done, in theory?

I'm doing something similar with my site (for my own public g+ feed posts);  I wonder if there's a way to generate a feed (from google+) for a particular hashtag or something...  Importing an RSS feed as posts is trivial, generating the feed is the tricky part...

The alternative is that we get everyone in Travis' circles and rely on him to [whatever g+ calls retweet] all the good stuff...

I think I could manage that.

PHP can interpret XML into any HTML code. if RSS is present it works very well..

Our wordpress setup today is using a plugin that converts RSS feed entries to posts on the page.  It's currently on "manual approval" for each post, but the system is there...

An ideal solution to the problem that Travis describes would be an RSS feed (from google themselves or a 3rd party tool) of all G+ [public] posts that match a list particular #hashtags or keywords...

I did some initial searching, and can't find anyone with a mechanism for doing this that doesn't have a giant list of caveats that probably make it useless...

Google (Google+, at least) solves this problem with "Pages," and
"Communities." If a post is public, you need only find it (or its
portal) on plus.google.com. In essence, we could simply setup DNS
such that www.omahamakergroup.org redirect to such a landing. Viola,
instant success.

I suspect we wish for an actual website though, and not some obscure
and seemingly arbitrary portal mostly outside of our control. There
are other attempts at solutions here as well, apparently called
"social media management" tools... e.g. the same problem but on a
much larger scale. Gross!

The last time I looked at the available Google+ APIs, they all focused
on creating content as opposed to gathering and exporting it.

I reckon exporting it wouldn't be in Google's interests.  Hmm.

If someone wanted to spearhead building an RSS feed from that api, I can take care of getting it imported to the website...

I didn't bother with making the url pretty.

It's pretty easy to install, just make sure smarty is in your php path. It does look like it would need a bit of hacking for our use though, it makes the first author the author of every post in the feed. So right now it looks like Dave wrote everything... :)

While Dave is quite wordy, that seems unlikely... I'll check it out.
