The proposed rules would require a repairability score for products that could be placed next to the price tag, helping shoppers identify which items are easily repairable. Additionally, manufacturers would not be able to make parts for repairs exclusive. For those products that use the manufacturers’ software, it would have to be made clear how long the company would provide software support – and provide alternatives for when it stops.
