Hey Everyone,

I think it is time for a serious discussion on the future of Omaha
JUG. There are a lot of people in our community that use and love
Joomla. Not all of them attend JUG. Not all of them want to attend a
user group. Are people just too busy to put time into the group? Is it
time to disband the group?

So, let's start discussing. :)

I wish I had the time.  Maybe it's time to look at doing something with Google+ hangouts or something similar.

I've been quite busy these past few months
Since I was new and only attended 1 meeting, I'm not sure how
important my input is.
I would hate to see the group fall apart but if there is not much
attendance, I understand the point.
After Dec, my schedule will clear up and will want to attend IF the
group is still around

Hazzaa,

Everyone's opinion matters. Thank you for your contribution.

Also, given your Street Cred (which everyone else may not be aware
of), no one can dispute your commitment to the project.

It sounds like everyone is busy these days. I'd like to get a feel for
whether we should let the group sit idle or if we should just
discontinue it.

So, let's vote. What do tou think?

I think it comes down to if anyone is willing to lead it. My vote is
to keep it if there is someone willing to step up.

Who leads the project now
I would like to work with whomever is leading it and help but can only
do this starting in January

I've been living in areas where there have not been any JUGs. Now that
I'm here, unfortunately my schedule went crazy and have been very
busy.
I would hate to see this fall

Hazzaa,

Technically I've been leading it since Dean's schedule forced him to
cut back on some responsibilities. Like Graden said, if someone is
willing to step up, I think it is a great benefit to keeping the group
going. I sent the first "Help Wanted" call out in August looking for
someone to take over as Leader. So far we have had no takers (all for
good reasons I might add).

If you are willing to step up and take the reins, that would be
awesome. This would not be helping the person in charge, you would be
in charge. Interested?

As much as I'd like to say yes, I can't commit at this time. I'm
willing to help but not take full responsibility at this time
Do we have a volunteer for help?

My thoughts to get more people involved is to build a website for us
and get some promoting done in the area. Get more Joomla users
involved as well as potential clients for web builders/developers.

I have several friends that I can call in as speakers (Developers of
major Joomla extensions)
BUT as I said, I can't commit to full control at this time. If January
goes as I expect, then the possibility will be there

I really would hate to see the group disband.

Hazzaa, you got some great things to contribute, but the thing is we do need someone to admin all of this.

Unfortunately, I can't do it.

I would also hate to see this group disband. My plans are to attend
the Joomla meetings, especially because I'm learning Joomla. Let's
plan a meeting for January. Then, we can notify whatever Joomla users
we know of by e-mail to invite them to attend. The question is,
though, who would lead that meeting.

Are you interested Bruce?  Anyone else interested in leading or helping to lead?

No, I am not interested in leading the meeting. I'm just interested
in attending.

Thanks Bruce. :) I'm in the same boat as you. If all else fails, we
could just make each meeting an open forum for members to ask
questions and get answers... open discussion. The problem with that
is that Presentations are a very valuable. Maybe we just meet as a
Open Discussion/Q&A group and if someone says they want to present at
the following meeting, great. Thoughts?

I would take on the group but till me schedule calms down more, I just
can't commit
Does anyone have a location for the January meeting?

Hi Hazzaa,

We do not have a location for January's get together. Do you have any
ideas? My preference is West Omaha... partially because it tends to be
a central location for most people while also being closer to Lincoln.
I know there is at least one person in Lincoln who has showed interest
in joining the group. Panera is a safe bet since they have internet
and people can get coffee or food if they wish. We used to meet at
Panera at 177th and Center in the early days. That is really far west
thought. More recently we have met at Garden Cafe in Rockbrook Village
(I-680 and Center). This location works as long as the group stays
around 6-8 people and granted the Gazebo is available. Getting the
room is tough since we are a non-paying group we tend to get "bumped"
when other paying groups want the room.

Since we usually meet on the first Monday, that would mean that we
would meet in January 2nd... 5 days from now. Is that okay with
everyone? Should we change it to a different date? One thing to note
is that the first Monday is the only day of the month that the Garden
Cafe is open late enough for our group.

That is a lot to digest. I welcome anyone's input. Thanks!

I think the 2nd might be a mistake for Jan. Why don't we aim for the
9th for this coming month, letting people get over the weekend party
LOL
As for location, I don't know the area well enough. So whatever works
for everyone else, will work for me (I'm in Bellevue)
I will look around for a Feb meeting place and see what I can come up
with.

Are we meeting next week? Would someone like to take the lead this
month. Next month, we will try to find someone else.

All that is required is to pick a place and post something on this
group stating the location, date, and time. :)

Easy?

As I said last week, I would like to meet in a round table environment
If nothing else, to discuss the future of Omaha JUG
I am seriously contemplating taking over but need some guidance.
If we can meet (wherever works for me, just tell me where) we can
discuss who is interested, what you're interested in and how serious
the interest is in continuing this group. This will allow me to assess
what to do and where to go from here

Please give feedback and location and I'll be there
