Our Moment,
We are also going to talk a bit tonight about another new opportunity
that will be run through us called Global Brigades. Let me know if
you're interested tonight. The information is below:
About Global Brigades
Global Brigades is the world's largest student-led global health and
sustainable development organization. We mobilize student volunteers
and professionals to empower, communities in developing countries
with programs that improve quality of life while respecting local
culture. Between 2008 and 2009, more than 4,000 volunteers from 110
university chapters in the U.S., Canada and Europe traveled to Central
America to provide health and economic development solutions to more
than 50,000 beneficiaries. To ensure a wholistic approach, Global
Brigades students run programs in 9 different disciplines:
Architecture, Business, Dental, Environmental, Microfinance, Law,
Medical, Public Health and Water.
Attend a One-week Workshop in Panama this Winter (December 26 -
January 1)
The Brigades Institute for Sustainable Development is founded on the
principal of “ecological seeing” or “systems thinking,” that is, a
shift in perspective from seeing the parts to seeing the whole, from
viewing people as helpless reactors to recognizing them as active
participants in shaping their reality, from reacting to the present to
creating the future. The week-long workshop provides a unique look
into the perspectives of development and the real world challenges of
helping others. In the classroom, students and an international team
of professionals will analyze the realities of global health and
sustainability and discuss the challenges facing this generation of
development workers. In the field, students will work as a team with
these professionals and local leaders to develop projects to address
local issues. In just one week, this workshop will give students the
tools to become global leaders in health, development and
environmental sustainability. Deadline for applications - Monday,
November 2, 2009.
Apply to be a GB Leader at Georgetown
Global Brigades (GB) is now looking for students to become leaders of
Georgetown's own student-run mulit-disciplinary development
organization. These leaders would work closely with the national GB
team to build groups at Georgetown in one or more of the disciplines
and organize these teams to travel to Central America and implement
sustainable projects. This leadership position gives a student an
inside look into running a development organization from the ground up
and offers an opportunity to design and implement international
development and global health projects. Anyone from any field of study
is encouraged to apply. To apply or for questions or comments, please
contact Program Director Orion Haas at
Or...@globalbrigades.org or
visit us at
www.globalbrigades.org. It is time for students to take
development into our own hands and unite with other students around
the world to make a difference. We look forward to working with you!
