Storm Brings Surplus of Wood Chips

Thanks to the January 2012 snow storm, and the amount of storm damaged trees, the City of Olympia has been the recent recipient of a bonanza of wood chips. Most of the wood chips generated from this storm event will be used in restoration projects throughout Olympia. However, the City is making some available for City of Olympia residents. What better way to celebrate those trees than to give some chips away for Arbor Day 2012!

After you plant a wonderful native tree in your yard for Arbor Day, don’t forget to add a 2-4” thick mulch ring of wood chips. They do an excellent job of maintaining soil temperature, moisture and control soil erosion and weeds.

Details

·         Wood chips will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

·         Chips are available to City of Olympia residents only (Bring your utility bill for identification).

·         There is a 5-cubic yard maximum per utility customer and delivery is not available.

·         This is for residential use only - commercial use of the wood chips is not permitted.
