Structure fire
Olympia Firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire in the 300 Block of State Ave. NE at 10:51 pm, Friday evening, July 20, 2018. The first engine arrived 4 minutes later and found a medium, two story commercial building with smoke coming from the roof. The fire appears to have started in the second floor area of a commercial wood shop. Smoke was first reported when the fire caused the building’s skylight to fail, emitting smoke into the sky.
The damage to the wood working shop was extensive, estimated to be $250,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents. Firefighters successfully contained and extinguished the fire before it could spread to the second business within the building. The fire was declared to be extinguished at 11:37 pm. Crews remained on-scene to perform salvage, overhaul and tend to the business owners needs until 1:37 am, July 21, 2018. Fire Investigators will continue their investigation later this morning.
Olympia Fire Department responded with 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 2 medic units and a command unit. Lacey Fire District 3 responded with one engine and one truck. There were no reported injuries and no occupants displaced.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
