Service Story:
2008: A year of accomplishment for Youth Services at Olympia.
2008 for Olympia Youth Services was a year I won't forget. Looking back, I am very proud of our year of accomplishment. Our story times, toddler times and book baby programs are popular and overflowing with enthusiastic kids and parents. Summer Reading programs were also often full to capacity. Our reading groups continued to thrive and were appreciated by parents and kids. We also managed to visit almost every school in the Olympia School District and one private school. During these visits we presented book talks, puppet shows and recruited volunteers . We hosted programs at Evergreen Village Apartments three times as an outreach to the West Side. (This outreach included children from Evergreen Vista Apartments.) We participated in a community wide Arbor Day event at the library. We partnered with Capital Playhouse during their production of Peter Pan. We partnered with Capital High School and middle schools to orient incoming 9th graders to high school and public library databases (Data and Dessert.) This is an annual event. Youth staff presented a two hour workshop on library resources for day care providers at the Tapestry Conference in SPSCC. At the end of the year we boxed up the children's collection for the remodel. This gave us an opportunity to make some changes in the organization and flow of the collection. I think these changes have made it easier for the public to find what they need. We (3 Youth Services FTE) hosted, planned, created and/or presented 83 teen events with 269 in attendance and we hosted, planned, created and/or presented 444 children's events with 3,906 in attendance. We hosted, planned, created and/or presented 42 outreach events in community with 6, 659 children or teens. Whew! What a year!

Timberland Regional Library News:
? As you may know, the Levy Lid Lift did not pass. There will be opportunities for the public to give input into reducing library open hours and services at upcoming TRL Board of Trustee meetings (which are posted on the library's website,
www.trlib.org and on the adult program bulletin board in the library), a feedback form on our website and in our libraries. $2.5 million needs to be trimmed from the 2010 budget (the 2009 budget was adopted in December 2008).
